I must say no comment.
We don't need to wait until the end of May to find out more about the upcoming Geforce 8800 Ultra card. Dell has actually leaked the 8800 Ultra specifications, but later removed the link. However, we were fast enough to capture the moment.

So, Dell confirmed the existence of the card and the specification clearly indicates that Nvidia is planning a 650 MHz card with 2160 MHz of GDDR3 memory on its odd 384 bit memory controller.

This is really a modest speed upgrade, as for example, EVGA already ships a 8800 GTX overclocked at 621 MHz core and 2000 MHz memory. With water cooling you can easily match 650 MHz core and 2160 MHz memory, or at least you should be able to.

The card still has 128 stream processors and it will be available with Dell's XPS 710 machines at later date.

Hmm.... I nearly hit that with my 8800GTX. I managed 630 core and 1100 memory. That doesn't look very Ultra.

I don't what to believe now:

According to friends who work in the industry, it is said that the GeForce 8800 Ultra will be launched on 1 May and on stores on 15 May.

The GeForce 8800Ultra is a single chipset design just like the G80 (GeForce 8800GTX). It has very similar spec. e.g. 768MB of GDDR3, 384 bits memory width. THe ony difference is the GPU and MEM CLK. G80 was 575/1800. The New GeForce 8800 Ultra runs o/c at 675/2350. Because of that, a new protruding heatsink is used to cool down the core.

From the specs of the GeForce 8800Ultra, we can see that the Green team is out to kill the ATi Radeon HD 2900XTX. The strange thing is that, the card is highly priced at 999USD and it uses old technology like GDDR3. Does that mean Greenies are confident in its performance of 8800GTX and purposely put up a pseudo model which might not even be on sale (limited units). From all this basic information we have gathered so far, I think it is fairly easy to gauge the performance levels of the upcoming ATi Radeon HD 2900XTX.

Actually they can both be right. It wouldn't be the first time Dell underclocks their GPUs. Considering XFX is able to sell 8600GTS cards with 2,260mhz DDR3 RAM, I should think NVIDIA would be able to to do the same with 2,350mhz.

My question is... what are the specs on the "8800GS" that has been discovered in the drivers? ;)

I have a feeling that the rumored 8600Ultra will be the 8800GS.

For 999.00 the card better be a hell of alot more than what I just read. That sounds like crap.

Yep, for that money and those specs, anyone who buys an 8800 Ultra will get ripped off, and badly :( Paying for the "Ultra" tag is not worth the extra $$$, especially if XJ can nearly hit those numbers with a GTX...
