According to chilehardware, there will be a 8600GTS with 256-bit and 512MB RAM in June

This could be quite interesting if its true.

I could see this as something they have planned all along. I think they know they crippled the performance with a 128 bit bus but they wanted to come out with the lower end cards first so they can one-up ATI when they need to with higher performing cards.

I am still hoping for an 8800GS and based on nVidia's recent track record, they could be one.

8800GS was confirmed via the drivers, just like the upcoming 8800Ultra. Just a matter of time on it.

Should be interesting to test some of these 256bit cards just to find out exactly how limiting the bus is since the cards are otherwise identical... :)

Not sure but this could be a bunch of BS:

The initial release notes for the NVIDIA ForceWare 158 Driver had a typo that referenced a product that does not, and will not exist. NVIDIA has no plans to release a GeForce 8800 GS. We have corrected the mistake and will be replacing the document on our website.

Yup, at least from what I've read, but if what Werty posted is true, there's no reason to worry about it now.

Right now I think I'd be happy with a 8600GTS with a 256 bus and 512 memory. But I think I'm going to try and hold out for a while longer and shoot for a little GTS action.

GS < GT < GTS < GTX < Ultra < GX2

They should be called Gvidia or something. ;)

Thanks for that quote regarding the 8800GS. I guess it makes since with a 256bit 8600 on the way.

Hmmm.... interesting, if not unexpected news... NVidia cannot deny the gap that they created and an 8600GTS or something with a 256 bit bus would certainly fill that slot. It's only a matter of time ;)

I say it should be 8600ultra like they where saying from the begining. If it pwns my 7950GT ill raise an eyebrow at it.

This is a curious product IF in fact it turns out to be true.

It would have MORE memory than the 8800GTS 320MB but a narrower memory bus (256 vs 320).

If the memory speeds stays the same (2GHz) the it would have 64 GB/s vs the 8800's 72GB/sec. Pretty close for marketing comfort.

This sounds like it would either be a 8600 Ultra or a 8800GT (maybe the S was supposed to be a T, hence the typo)

How much would this thing go for then?? The 7900GTX had very similar numbers and was pretty expensive. This just doesnt add up in my mind.

I would wager IF ANYTHING, Nvidia would produce a 256-bit 256MB card. If they had 512MB then they would lower that memory speed.

I guess time will tell.
