As I have seen, many people here have an 8800 series card, or 2 I was just wondering what tools u guys used to OC it, as I have read that nTune is garbage, and yea, so what do you guys recommend?

For GPU OC'ing I like ATiTool (http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/). Other than that, RivaTuner (http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=rivatuner&menu=8) is another good app.

How long should I scan for artifacts with ATI Tool?

Not sure, I usually just use the "Find Max Core" first and then "Find Max Mem." second until artifacting starts to show and then I back down the final clock speeds by 5-10Mhz and manually "Scan for artifacts".

Try increasing the clock speeds manually instead of using the "find max" buttons.

Not really sure as it takes a few seconds for artifacting to show if my clocks are too high. 5min should be enough I guess.
One method is to "Scan for Artifacts" while you increase the clock speeds; this way your video card is constantly at load and you should notice if you went too far.

Hey i thought id give it a go on my already factory overclocked 7900gt. Was wondering how long to run the AtiTool find max core thing for because after about 5 to 6 mins it froze m computer n restarted it. Also because its factory overclocked it gives this warning about having my mem overclocked might cause artifacts while trying to find max core which will make it think the core is causing it and lower the core. Should i worry if its factory overclocked?

Nope, but you can test the default speeds if you want to be absolutely sure. It's not uncommon for factory overclocks to be set to high already out of the box.
