Hmmm finally got around to starting up my F@H experience. Ive put a copy of the client exe into 2 folders CPU1 and CPU2. I then ran the CPU1 file and still unsure of the exact settings i should use for my system. Ive entered username, 41608 team ID, i set it be a service, not to ask before fetching units, not to use IE settings, not to use proxy, allowed it to use 5mb units.
Now do I change the advanced settings or not? The anandtech guide wasnt too clear about this so Im asking for some specific advice for core 2 duo settings.

Unfortunately you cannot run two clients with one of them set to run as a service. Both must not be set as a service.
Allow reciept of work assignments and return results greater than 5MB: Setting this will tell F@H to use all the RAM it needs, it will not limit itself. You get bigger point WU's, but if you use dual F@H clients you will also use up large portions of RAM. I don't suggest using this for a system you use heavily.
Advanced options:
Priority, Leave on "idle"
Usage, Leave on "100"
disable optimized code leave on "no"
battery power, leave on "no"
Checkpoint interval leave on "15:
Memory, I suggest leaving this on it's default setting
Request without deadlines, leave on "no"
Set -advmethods.... this one I would suggest leaving on "no" unless you are willing to use possibly unstable cores and work units. You can get more points for doing this via bonus WUs.
Ignore deadline info leave on "no"
Machine ID, set to "2"
To run two clients they must have different Machine ID's. Leave one client with the default ID of "1", and set the 2nd client to a default ID of "2".
Also ensure each F@H exe has it's own folder, and put these folders in a place where they will not be moved or have changed drive letters. Then ya can right-click and tell them to put a shortcut on your desktop for both, and launch them that way.

What does the -local tag on the shortcuts do? (said to do this on the overclockers guide)

I never used that tag. I believe it tells the exe to look for the files in the same DIR that it is launched within.

OK thanks. cool had 2 work units finish overnight and jumped up to a whopping 57th in our team hehe. I wonder why core2 seems to be a lor faster at completing the units than core 1

Because the Core 2 Duo can complete a 128bit instruction in a single clock cycle, the Core Duo and Athlon cannot. ;) Most F@H cores make use of these large SSE instructions sets.

hmm well what i meant was why 1 client run quicker than the other. but just learned sumdin new again hehe.

Not all WUs finish at the same rate; some don't take much time while others require some time to finish.

Hmm. Can i run the clients without having to have them on my taskbar?

Hmm. Can i run the clients without having to have them on my taskbar?
Yes if you run them as a service(in the background) but I am not sure how to configure it for that since I like to have control over the open windows.

Ya can't run both of them as a service, unfortunately. I do not know of a way to hide the client without running as a service. Sorry Westy ;)

Looks like the WU became unstable; an unstable overclock could contribute to it but I am not 100% sure.

As fas as i know im stable at 3ghz. ran stability and blend tests for 8 hours each

Well, if it happens again then you'll know for sure your overclock became unstable. It doesn't always have to be the processor, if the RAM is overclocked then that could be it too. And I have seen machines test stable to 8 hours, and later give an error at ~12 hours.
Orthos does have a "Test with Gromacs core" option, you can try that as well since the Gromacs core is often used in F@H.

Woah! One of my cores is running project 2613. Takes up 200mb ram and 300mb virt Ram and gives 700 odd credits on completion (it also takes twice as long to complete 1%). My other core is doing 3405 and only takes up 14mb RAM lol and gives like 250 credits. Just thought id tell yas. I found it interesting lol. Now i know why they say to not set the advmethod tag to false. They really do use up a lot of mem.

I started a few days ago and I'm up to 62nd place in the team standings. I'm running a single client for now, but might add a second one later.

Awesome! We need to get at least all the regulars to start/continue folding. :)
Also, are you receiving the advanced advmethod work units or just the simple ones? Just curious

I chose the simple ones to start with.
