View Full Version : Problem with XFX 7800GT

Whenever I play a game (DirectX, haven`t tried OpenGL), the game will crash to a black screen/no signal state. The audio will loop, and I will have to hard reset the computer. This problem has been occurring at random intervals for approximately 15 weeks. I have been troubleshooting on and off trying to isolate the problem. I have run Prime95, Memtest86 and Orthos for over 60 hours to verify my CPU and RAM were not the cause. I removed all auxiliary components such as spare hard drives, sound card, and all case lighting to verify it was not a power issue or issue with those components.
System Specs
X2 4400+ Toledo (Swiftech MCX-6400V with AS5 and Vantec 92mm Tornado)
DFI LanParty NF4 SLI-DR Expert
XFX 7800GT PV-T70G-UDE7
4x512 OCZ 3200 Platinum Rev 2
Soundblaster Audigy2
OCZ 520w Powerstream
All of my testing was performed without overclocking on any components. I even tried underclocking the video card.
I'm downloading 3DMark06 now for further testing.

3DMark06 caused the same crash on the first test 4 times in a row.
I put in a ticket on XFX support #91941

my 7800gtx is doing the same thing, i have a trouble ticket into xfx now and the card will be getting rma'd monday i hope. my card has only been doing it a week and im having mmo withdrawals.. :) open a ticket, and good luck with your card.

Swapped the XFX 7800GT with my brother's other brand 7800GT and had no problems. He, however, crashed about 15 minutes into a game (using my XFX 7800GT).
I'll update my ticket with the info.

Sorry to hear that, but it looks like the RMA has been issued. PM me once you have sent the card in so I can keep an eye out for it.

It crashed on 3Dmark testing for XFX the same way as for me. They're sending me a 7900GS replacement. Looks like they have another satisfied customer.
