Excerpt: "Was S.T.A.L.K.E.R worth waiting for all these years? Will it implement all promises given by the developers during the development time? I invite you, if you feel you’re brave enough, to put on your anti-radiation suit (some Vodka would help as well), load your Kalashnikov, put your backpack on and join me while I explore the exciting world of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl."

Another good review Pym!

Looks interesting! I may just have to get this.

I would agree that having to walk/run everywhere in a big game world like that would suck at times. I can only guess that they left it out so that you would Explore the world and find stuff instead of just zooming past it in a car of some sort.

Thanks guys.

About walking, it gets even worse when your stamina runs out (which happens pretty fast when your character is loaded) and you must walk instead.
I think GSC should have left the option to the player.
Give players the option to cross it faster if they wish, those who want to walk and explore further can choose to leave the transportation unused... ;-)

Walking seems to be the main feature of this game. I might as well play WoW.

Actually the walking was fine by me.
This ain't a kiddy game.
I mean I hate those kinda games where you just make it to the end warp to all the secrets, pick up all the goodies beat the last boss and then toss the game in the back of the closet.
Making those walks and everything and using deadlines for a few missions is actually very good in my opinion.
Makes it a lot more realistic and actually adds replayability.
Its long its boring but at least you don't cheap your way out of it.
And if the reward isn't that important then you can keep on going with your mission instead of warping all over as if you were a CSS cheater.

Well, again, if you want to walk - walk.
Give the alternative for those who don't...
It is a poor way to make the world seem wider and larger then it already is.

About time limits and timing missions, there are much more creative ways to challange the player in that aspect rather than make him walk or run to his destination...

Also, about the secrets of the storyline, do you really think that letting you drive a car will reveal the secrets of the game? There are lots of ways to protect the plot, this is not one of them...

You surprise me, Schwarz. :)

Yea vehicles would be really handy, at least a bike  if nothing else.
But even as it is, this game is just fantastic. I really think it's one of the better games of the last few years, it sure was worth the wait.

I, of course, agree.
This game was a great experience, as you could understand from my review...

No of course plot wise vehicule or not you could still protect it.
But I remember walking back a few times to retreive some mission rewards and every time I would enjoy the nice view of the landscapes.

What I tried to say is that it would have diminished my enjoyment of the game if I could have just warped all over the map to get the missions done with.

Now of course if I had the choice to cheap it out with a warping system or drive a car at 100 miles an hour on the map then I would have done it but all i'm saying is that the walking was long but didn't bother me much.

STALKER was all about survival, bringing little stocks to complete a mission and not try to be overloaded and I think wapring or driving a car or whatever would have defeated the whole point of the game.
You could just go past the angry dogs and the mercs without wasting any bullets or meals or healthpacks.
Depends on what difficulty you guys played the game but I don't think stalker was meant for a fast BANG BANG BANG fps and then after defeating everyone BANG warp to the shop buy ammoes and health then bang warp back to the mission.
