Hi everyone.
I recently bought an 8800GTS which I am very happy with; I thought it would be cool to pop a Thermalright HR03 Plus heatsink on the card (its in my HTPC), and the place that sold it to me thought it *should* fit in my case (Zalman HD160).
As it turns out, it doesn't. The heatsink is about 2cm too tall to fit it I intend to replace the lid on the PC. Unfortunately, in order to find this out, I had to remove the original heatsink, and having had to replace it, I think the thermal compound is not really doing its job any more. The card is much hotter and louder than before.
Am I ok removing the thick grey paste from the GPU and heatsink and adding some stuff I got with my CPU cooler? I have not damaged or moved any of the thick white pads.
Alternatively, is there any way to mod the HR03 so that the heatsink (the block) is a bit further up the heatpipe? This would also solve my problem. Unfortunately, the block looks like its fixed and not movable.
Any help gratefully received before my case melts from the heat of the graphics card!
Chris
