Hey I have the normal 360 without the HDMI port.
I was wondering if I wanted to use HDMI with my 52 incher.
Would I have to use the XBOX AV DVI cable and buy a DVI-D female to HDMI male converter ?
Would that work...?
Or is there an HDMI cable for the XBOX360 I've read a few places that there wouldn't be such a thing.

There's no HDMI or DVI cable available for the xbox 360. If your TV has a VGA port, the easiest thing would be to get the 360 VGA cable kit.
From what I've read a DVI - HDMI adapter will not work on an xbox 360. No image will be displayed.

No image will be displayed. The Xbox 360 can only output an analogue signal and HDMI or DVI-D is digital. The only way to do it would be to purchase the HDMI ready Xbox 360 Elite, or buy a $500 converter. Most 52inch t.v's will have analogue and digital input ports, mine does. It might have a DVI-I port which WILL work with the Xbox 360 as DVI-I can take both digital and analogue signals. So if a DVI-I port is present then you will need to purchase the Xbox 360 VGA cable set then a VGA to DVI-I adapter (most GFX cards come with them). Hope that answers your question some what.

That actually answered it quite well.
I was wondering if the XB360 was Digital or Analog.
I don't have a DVI port on my 52incher.
And no I will not be buying an elite because I already have a normal XBOX.
I'll just go for the VGA cable.
Anyways I don't think there will be THAT much of difference worth buying a new xbox anyways...

You will notice a cleaner picture using the VGA cable. The latest live update included a black level adjustment which can be found in the system/console settings/display tab. The black level adjustment is specifically for those who use the VGA cable and notice washed out colors.

Aye. The vga cable gives really good quality in HD. Well worth the buy, however if you are using the Component cables for hd you wont see a massive change.

No i'll use the real VGA cable.

That one.

Man the Svideo cable gives a nice picture on a 52inch monitor but not good enough for me.
I could read the text in dead rising though but i'd like a clearer picture.

Yeh what i was meaning was the component cable (blue, green, red, white, and other colours) will give just as good of a HD picture as the VGA HD AV cable. But the VGA cable is wicked i have one. I was just asking if you were already using the component HD cable but u were using a S-Video. I didnt like the S0Video picture at all , looked crappy on my tele.

I use component video and optical audio on my 360. My Toshiba 34HF81 only supports 1080i and has no HDMI, VGA, or DVI ports. I'm very happy with the picture.

MAN !!!
My friend just gave me his component cable and wow it is nice.

Now I think i'm going to start a thread on this later on.
720p vs 1080i.
I am so confused with all this upscaling 580i,
interlaced stuff, and all.
What will give me the best picture.
There's this stuff saying that in lots of action I would be better of using 720p (movies) but then how about video gaming...?
And one more thing I know component and VGA is basically the same thing but I've heard that VGA would give me better quality...
Can you guys clarify a few things for me.
I rarely ask question but this is too much.
I am so confused in all this...

720p doesn't buy you anything in movies over 1080i. Movies are recorded at 24fps. 720p displays up to 60fps, where 1080i displays 30fps.

With games, however, if the game supports both, you will get a smoother animation with 720p, but with a loss in detail. It's the same deal as with your PC: higher res = more detail, higher FPS = smoother motion. It's a trade off. If you had 1080p, then there would be no decision. ;-)

My Sony 60" XBR1 TV supports up to 1080i. When I watch HD shows, I'd rather watch them on channels that feed 1080i over the channels that feed 720p. The image is just that much clearer.

It ultimately comes down to personal preference.

One more thing.
Would my image be "that" much better with the VGA cable over the component even though they are the same.
There's is lots of debates on the net about it...

VGA is analog, just like component. I wouldn't expect it to be any better. What I would expect to affect either would be the quality of the cable and the shielding. Apart from that, I wouldn't expect a difference - speaking only of signal quality.

I don't have a 360, so I can't say definitively as there may be tweaks and features on each of the connection types that could change the image quality.
