I've recently purchased a XFX 8800GTS 640MB XXX (PV-T80G-THD9) which I've installed in my Shuttle SD37P2 (aka 'the toaster').
The GPU temp is currently on an all time idle high of 75°. Although the temperature band is small, under load it barely reaches 83° (due to the fan ramping up speed).
I'm fine with these temperatures, I've seen much higher, the passively cooled XFX 7600GS it replaced happily ran at temperatures in excess of 100° under load, which no problems whatsoever.
All that aside, I am curious as to the operating temperature range my new card. With all these new fancy drivers and tools that allow you to monitor temperature, why don't manufacturers (including XFX) more prominately display the operating temperature range? Or have I missed it somewhere?
Further to my main query, nVidia drivers my other bugbear atm, it seems to be a veritable minefield. Currently I'm running 158.22 ('International' download as this offers WHQL whereas 'English' doesn't!) on Windows XP MCE 2005. These drivers offer a huge performance increase over 97.92, but I don't have a usable 'GPU Fan Settings' under Performance->Adjust GPU Settings. Anyone shed any light or offer advice here?
Thanks to anyone who offers their words of wisdom.
