Hi There,

My problem is symptomatic to Win XP (I used to run ubuntu and never saw any of this). My current driver version is 93.71 for WinXP and it seems that when I first start up every morning (it will do this once then run along quite happily), it will reboot the first time I start windows, then go to the Windows had a critical error what mode do you want to start it in screen.

This only started to happen (this is a fresh XP installation) right after I installed my drivers, otherwise I can think of anything else that would do it (ran RAM tests etc).

Any ideas or suggestions would help greatly. I have seen someone post something similar before and unfortunately the thread ended with XFX support saying pm me after you lodge a ticket.

Cheers

Welcome; there is no need for you to make two threads.

Anyways have you tried different drivers? Try the newest drivers here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_94.24.html

I am unclear as to what the problem is; are you saying that your computer reboots and is at the boot menu screen where you can choose safe mode or load windows normally?

Here is what the BSOD says: (My Mobo is Shuttle: XPC SN21 G5)

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you have seen this screen, restart your computer, if this screen appears again follow these steps:

Check that you have adequate disk space (300 gb HDD only windows installed). If a driver is identified in the stop message disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for updates. Try changing video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates, disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need safe mode (rambles on about how to start in safe mode).

Stop Message:
0x0000008E, 0x80000003, 0x08052576A, 0X3A937C08, 0x0000000)

So im hoping one of you have seen this and know how to deal with this. Again thanks very much for the assistance.

Cheers

Is this Windows XP with SP2 installed? If it only happens on the first boot you should double check all the programs that start with Windows, and try disabling the ones you & the OS does not need. There are some articles out there to help with this, be sure to check the app before axing it. Start -> Run -> msconfig -> Startup.

Is your 7900GS the AGP or PCI-E version? Have you started a support ticket from www.xfxforce.com yet, if so let me know the number? What video card was in the system before this one?

Hiya,
The only thing in my startup list is my RealTek audio control panel and the nview control panel.

Which articles are you referring to? This issue or the startup how to guide?

I have used the 7900GS for a while without such problems. If you feel its realated to the video card (which it may be, people have had stranger problems) I can see about arranging to have an RMA created so you can send the video card the the support team in your area. Also responded to your ticket.
