One of the easiest and quickest ways to do so is to develop and deliver products that not only succeed but excel at their intended scope of use, and Noctua aims to do exactly that."

Lots of reviews out on the cooler already.........;)
But very good review none the less.............:icon_tiphat:
I've been running one of these on my C2D system from the day I switched over to the dark side..........But I'm also running a low speed Delta 60mm fan on mine (650i chipset). The cooler gets real hot to the touch without the added fan and that with 3 x 120mm fans blowing over the MoBo area.
For those that haven't seen how it would look with a 60mm fan installed, here's a shot of mine.

Depends, in that pic it's blowing, but I've tried it both ways and I'm thinking I'll sawp it around back to sucking with all the air flow I have in the case. It gets a more even (equal) air flow over the fins.

Yes, thats what i was thinking. Now my logic may be a bit off, but the way I looked at it, was your blowing air downwards against the trend of the warm air, and then onto the gfx card which will bounce back up and oppose the flow of the fan. Whereas if you have it sucking (or even if theres a way to have it on the underside blowing up), it is pulling the hot air upwards in the direction it would rather go, and have no close obstructions in the airflows path.
Is any of that even remotely close to what might be the case?

Your pretty close I think, except for the air "bounce back up" part, there's not enough air pressure from the 60mm fan for that to happen and the air flow from my 120mm case fans pretty much keep that area cleared out of hot air. But pulling the air through in it's natural direction is a plus (less work, more even flow), the only draw back to pulling the air through the cooler is that it plases the fan blades closer to the cooling fins and could cause more noise, I haven't checked that part out yet.

Sounds like a good replacement for the stock heatsinks on my 680i SLI board. But with my current cpu cooler, the Thermalright Ultra-120, it already hangs over a bit of the northbridge...

The cooler is thick, thicker than the Thermalright version by a little bit, but it's not any wider than the base of the cooler or the chipset package it's self. I might cause problems with a CPU cooler as big as the one you have so you will have to measure very carefully to check for clearance issues.

You could adjust your TT Ultra-120 by turning it 90º as that might make it do-able.

I actually have it turned so that it is facing up (blowing air upwards) because I have 2 top exhausts on my case. I also have a 32mm thick fan on that cpu cooler, which doesn't help the situation...
By the way, do any of you guys have this on a reference 680i sli board? If so, what chipset cooler did you use for the southbridge?

I don't on my board but a Thermalright HR-05 SLI (http://www.thermalright.com/a_page/main_product_hr05sli.htm) or the HR-05 IFX SLI (http://www.thermalright.com/a_page/main_product_hr05_ifx_sli.htm) should work just fine.

I had the cooler on the reff 680i LT board, same exact layout of the 680i board, just different coolers..................;)
For use on the SB you can use just about any low profile SB cooler as the mounting is standard. Also if you are wanting a standard Nvidia cooler, EVGA sells the standard SB cooler on their web site. The cooler is a bit on the loud side, but it does a good job of keeping the SB cool. It runs about $7 bucks.

I can understand that a new member doesn't know about the rules but i wonder when even the senior members carry on digging up the 2 months old thread.

Ole ye I'll berak every rule in the book just for a post count, you have zero room to open your spamming mouth about rules. I truely hope you learn to read in your life time........;)
Basicly what I'm saying here is that you have no room to talk as you've basicly broken every rule in the book............."SPAMMER"

I'M GOING TO TRY AND MAKE THIS MY LAST POST IN AN OLD THREAD.
I wasn't trying to cause all this trouble. But I have been warned and I'm making sure to look at the thread/post date. So I'm sorry about all this trouble.
Just one question though. If I just read a slightly old review, like this one, and I want to discuss it, would it be better to do it here or start a new thread? Because there is a link at the bottom of the review page that says "Discuss this Review" and it sends me to this forum page.
Once again, I'm sorry.

To play it safe, just start a new thread in the right section and you'll be fine. Nothing to worry about.
I myself see no problem with letgitamate questions about a reviewed item, it's the useless coments that come 2 months after the review was released that are 100% "SPAM" is where the problems start.
