Hiya,

I have recently bought an XFX GeForce 7950GT for the AGP slot. I had to RMA the first card because it broke down after only a few hours (artifacts, stripes, black screen, the usual...).

I'm now on the second card and while it is nice that this one is working at least ;) it is incredibly noisy and I'm not even such a sensitive person usually.
I have done some research and have seen posts from a lot of people claiming that the card only has a single fan speed. Are we sure about that?
I have some doubts about this theory since the card is pleasantly silent when my system boots up. The fan then starts to kick in at full speed when the driver gets loaded. So there does seem to be a slower speed before the driver sets in. Or does the fan not work at all when booting up and does it only begin to rotate as soon as the driver gets loaded?

On the plus side, the card is pretty cool at around 50°C now when it idles (room temp is 27°C at the moment due to summer so the normal temp would probably be more like 43°C - 45°C) but it makes some crazy noise, too. I have a feeling that either... a) the fan throttling -if there is such a thing on this card- on my card is broken or b) the fans on other people's cards are broken because -seriously- there should be a lot more complaints about the noise this card is emitting if everyone had a fan (like me) that's running at full speed all of the time.

Thanks in advance for any helpful insight on this subject :) .

Just to verify I decided to try for myself and find out. I tried using Rivatuner with the 7950GT AGP video card, but was unable to see any difference in the fan speed. The 7950GT AGP does not have variable fan speeds.

OK, thanks for the reply :) . I think I read somewhere around here that your engineers are working on a new BIOS version for this card. It would most certainly be very welcome if anything could be done about throttling down the fan (and the GPU core) in 2D. It's kind of silly that the fan is screaming like mad when you're just surfing the web or checking mails etc ;) .

Yes I am also curious about a BIOS update. Thanks for the drivers XFXsupport oh and I have noticed nVidia's latest Forceware Beta (162.15) now supports our cards :icon_tiphat:
So yes, in a new BIOS update I would like to see the 2D clocks lowered, some sort of fan control implimented oh and 1400Mhz Memory speeds on the 7950GT as that is what the chips are rated @ and the reference clock as per 7950GT GPU specification.
Thanks and keep up the good work guys.
