Hey Guys. My friend had bought a SATA DVD Burner from Fry's Electronics last week and when he arrived home he realized that his power supply does not have SATA power connector, so he went out and bought a SATA motherboard cable and SATA Power Cable as a combo. The wierd thing is that whenever he is in windows, he has his dvd burner working as a flash drive. I don't know why it does that but it is wierd. You know, he can disconnect it from the windows tray, and then it dissapears from My computer, and the only time he can see it again is when he restarts his computer. Does he have something set-up wrong in the BIOS or is there something wrong with the drive? Thanks guys, hope you guys can help. :icon_tiphat:

Which motherboard/computer does he have?

It should be complete plug-n-play, I know mine was, the Lite-On I have shows up as a DVD Ram drive when empty, and when I load a disk it shows the correct tye that's loaded. I can also unload it from the desktop like all SATA drives, reloading does require a reboot though.

The motherboard is ASRock P4VM 890
And the DVD Burner is Pioneer DVR-2810

I looked through the manual http://download.asrock.com/manual/P4VM890.pdf
and the only thing I could see was on page 31 (sata operation mode) make sure it's on non raid. On page 37 via sata raid utility, make sure it's set to disabled. You should also try setting the boot order so cd/dvd is first.
Sata drivers may also need to be loaded.

I'll let him know so he could try that. Thanks for the help, hopefully it will work.
