View Full Version : 8800GTS XXX - occassional no video/full fan

Normally my 8800GTS XXX will briefly 'burst' its fan at full speed when the PC is initially booting up, very quickly settling to a slow (almost silent) speed during normal operation of Windows.

I've noticed that quite rarely, maybe 1 in 20 boots, the fan will not return from full speed, i.e. it goes to full speed on boot and stays there. Addtionally in this scenario, no video signal will be output to the monitor, i.e. the monitor has no display at all during BIOS or Windows boot.

Windows boots normally, just I'm flying blind, the situation is invariably recovered with a shutdown/reboot.

Is this behaviour someone has experience of?

well, its very similar to a problem I had on my mums computer which had a 9200SE. In the end it turned out to be a psu problem, though that was a long time ago

I have not heard of that being a problem, but then we have all seen stranger things I am sure. Something like that is going to be tough to nail down. Might even help if you can run this card in another system for a while and see if it follows the video card or not, if thats a possible option.

Unfortunately I've not got another PCI-e motherboard. I'll not be updating my ageing full size AGP boards until E6850/X38 is available.
