his PSU is either 450/500 im not 100% sure but ill get you some more info on that soon

he was looking to spend around $150 on a new graphics card, and i was thinkin of a 7600gt/7900gs/8600gts

He said he doesnt mind paying the extra bit, but is it worth it?

$30?? so he isn't gonna send the rebate in?

Its actually $50 and the 8600GTS ain't that much faster because of the 128-bit bus when the 7900GS uses a 7900GS.

Ok $50 difference, what i meant was its only $30 when ur buying it.

But which card is faster/better currecntly, i dont think hes gonna go to vista.

In that case the 7900GS is the better choice; if he ever is gonna go with Vista the 8600GTS would be a bit better for DX10 support.
