OMG, what a day... Ok so i woke up this morning about 9 30, did some panicky cramming before my exam which was at 1 45. About 1 30 i got on my bike to head to uni for the exam...all was going good till i came to a corner which was downhill, wet and had mould on the tar... Next thing i know, my bike was on top of me, legs were up in the air (or so i assume cause theres not a scratch on my pants) and pretty much all my body weight was on my head as i slid a good 10 meters down the bloody path. All i could think about it during it was Thank god i have a helmet on. Cause i could literally hear the helmet grinding away on the ground as i slid :S What an experience. Funny thing is when i got up the first thing i did was check my bike was ok, then i checked no 1 saw me, only then did i see all the skin missing from my hands, and a lil bit from my cheek, so, it was about then i decided I better head to the medical centre, not the exam lol. Spent a few hours gettin patched up but what was probably worse what they gave me a tetnis shot. The needle didnt hur, but dam my arm is throbbing now! So, now im waiting to see if i have to reschedule my exam or if they will estimate my mark :( Ahh, dramas
But, after all that im pretty good, just some bandages, a killer headache and a sore pride. There goes a $50 helmet :(

Wow, sounds like a horrible day. I am sorry what had happened to you. I remember when I had two serious bike accidents over my last school year. Once on the beggining of the year when I was going to school I wasn't paying attention what was in front of me. I was just staring at my bike and not at the road, and all of the suddent I hit a car get slammed into it with my face, and then I blacked out for a few seconds. The helmet didn't help at all and my front teetch had went through my lips making a whole in it, as well as chipping my front teeth. Horrible accident, and I had to go to the hospital to the emergency room because they had to give me stiches and some stuff if you know what I mean.
On another day I was riding my friends bike because I was babysitting three boys, and I didn't know that his break was really strong, so as I was riding down the hill, one of the kids decided to cut in front of me, and I didn't want to crash into him so I pushed on my breaks as hard as I could, and all I could feel after that was that I was in the air, because It shot me out like a catapult. I didn't have a helmet and anything, and I had landed on my body area. It heart preety bad for a few days, but it was just bruses and my skin on my hand was scraped. Preety bad accidents I must say. I had many more but not this bad.
Hope you will feel better and hope you get better fast! ;-)

thanks, sorry to hear about your own accidents! Mine doesnt look too bad, but if i didn't have that helmet on i would have been in serious trouble. Ive got a bad enough headache as it is now :(

Firstly why did they give you a tetnis shot??
Ive had some pretty bad accidents. Ill only name off a few good ones.
First ill mention when i was racing. (GT Racing tournament, sponsored by Adidas and some others). Im on my $500 GT Racing bike, racing along yada yada, next thing i know BAM pot hole! Endo'd bad! (Flew off the front of the bike). Luckily i had my suit and helmet on. Walked outa that one without a scratch.
Second, i was flat landing at a skate park. Was goin through some tubes and decided i was gonna be cool and go all the way around. (Was like a sewer tube).Got to the top, NOPE! Landed flat on my head and the bike ontop of me. Had a Harrow that time.
Thirdly. I live about 4 1/2 miles from my town and school which isnt far. But over the middle part of summer i was on break from racing and when school started i had been outa shape. So i decided im gonna ride to and from school. No big right? Well when i get on the main road im going at it racing style with alot of speed. Only thing i had on was my helmet to try and loko cool when i got to school lol. (Not a normal helmet, racers have helmets that look like dirt bike helmets) When i get to school i passed the F out. My drumline buddies (had marching band first period) all had to pick me up and get some water in me and about 15 minutes later i came to. Not really an accident, but when i woke up i was hurting from falling flat on my face.
I dont bike or BMX anymore though, both about $500 bikes and they both got stolen.

tetnis shot was for god knows why. Havnt had one in about 6 years and they said i needed one if i hadn't had it in 5 years. Probably to stop any infections of tetnis I spose. Who knows whats on those paths lol. Yeh this bike im riding at moment is a mongoose tyax super 07, cost me $780AU so, about $620US i think. And, its tyres are NOT made for the road, but I hadnt got around to buying more suitable rubbers for em. Isn't hindsight grand? Surprisingly I cant see anythin wrong with the bike, except a bit of the front break handle is scratched and it broke my toot-a-horn (the pride of my bike :()
Edit: That would be right, its a hell of a lot cheaper in the US :(

I just did the conversion from Au to US, but you guys can get it a fair bit cheaper there. I should have ordered one from the US and saved myself $150 (before shipping)

Ah thats a pretty nice bike dude! I had an old Mongoose 18 speed back in the day. Then i got into bike racing and of course those are smaller bikes.
Ahaha remember when Dyno bikes where Teh Shiz?? Ah man, i had a Dyno GT and it was my pride. Then i realized, they arent really worth crap! Idk about now though.
Here are the 2 bikes i had, that got stolen.
Wow, it went up in price!

This is close to the Haro i had. It was a 2005 Nyquist pro model. You cant see them without getting a catalog PDF. But it was all glossy black.

Glad you are OK!
I used to ride a HARO back in the day, still have it, but it is HEAVY.
Now I just ride a full suspension Mongoose. It works for all the riding I do.

Eugh gimme a hardtail any day! Doing a cross country race on a dual suspension...no thanks! Mind you it would be awfully comfy compared to the hardtail, if you can be bothered pedalling one of em. Id love to do some downhill on one but we dont have many big hills round here

I still have my cross country fully and my Free Rider fully, don't really ride anymore after my last surgery, I suppose I should though.
I'm not really into helmets and the like, only time I used to wear them was when I was in a offical race, but only because they are required................:jawdrop:

Sometimes, especially young teenagers, think a helmet looks ridiculous.
But these kind of stories happen all the time and good thing you have a head on your sholders and decided to wear your helmet.
Of course it could not have killed you but humans aren't invinsible.

I used to ride a HARO back in the day, still have it, but it is HEAVY.What model did you have? Mine was a freestyle so it was extremely light. Idk if it was cause i was stronger back then, or becasue it was just that light but i could lift it with just my pointer finger.
Sometimes, especially young teenagers, think a helmet looks ridiculous.I thought my racing helmet looked awesome and it was hard to get off me hehe.

Haha yeh, I quite like my helmet, looks all flashy, so I dont mind wearin it. Coupled with my sister working in a brain injury care centre and always telling me about the things that happen to her patients. She made me promise I would never ride without one, so I figured that was an easy enough promise to keep

It does not look horribly bad, but I know how it is, when it is on picture, it looks like nothing really happened, but actually it hurts a lot. When I had stiches, then when I took a picture it looked totally fine, but acctually my lips were really swollen and it hurt extremely a lot. Hope you get better soon. :)

06-26-2007, 10:03 AM
Well, it really isnt all that bad. That's what i'm kinda gettin at. Because I had the helmet on, i came out rather well, apart from massive headache. But if i didnt have it on, well, you can imagine how much skin id have left on the side of my face and head ;)

What model did you have?
It was a Megatube MX or MX Megatube, I cant rembember right now. It had a pretty funky frame design, with a single large oval tube coming from the stem/headset down to the seat post tube. I can't seem to find any pictures of it online...maybe I'll snap a few pics later on. I know it came with some 5-spoke mag wheels that weighed a ton!
PP Mguire
06-26-2007, 08:38 PM
The wheels themselves might have weighed the bike down alot. Ive noticed that most cheap bikes from Wal Mart seem really heavy becasue of the lame wheels they put on them.
