Hey guys, how's it going?

I have all but given up so I desperately need some help here. I changed my motherboard(XFX 650i Ultra, GREAT BOARD) and everything works fine except the DVD burner. Every time I pop a disc in there, doesn't matter if it's an app disc, movie, R/RWs, the computer will crash right away. I know the DVD burner is fine itself because it had been working flawlessly before the mobo swap. I had even borrowed my friends DVD burner and the same thing happened. I also know it most likely isn't a physical defect on the new mobo's IDE port because my IDE PATA HD is working just fine, and I used the port/DVD drive to install my Vista! One interesting note is that even if I use my external USB DVD drive, it still crashes.

I am using the default MS Vista IDE drivers. I have tried everything from swapping b/t Master/Slave, change IDE cable, change DVD burners, switching to 3rd party drivers...nothing works. I have also tried updating both the burners to their latest firmware. The only thing I haven't tried is updating the mobo BIOS, which I can't at the moment because I don't have a floppy drive. Could this just be a physical defect of the board? Should I RMA it? Anyone else having the same problem?

Here are my specs just in case:
Pentium D 805
2gb Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800
BFG 7900GS
Antec Earthwatts 500w
Samsung Spinpoint 160gb SATA
Samsung Spinpoint 80gb PATA
Internal IDE Pioneer burner DVR111
External USB NEC DVD burner 3550A

Seems like an odd problem, but then again anything is possible. Do you get any error messages when it crashes? When you tested ther other driver did you use the same cable or a different one? It may be a fualty motherboard so please start a support ticket at www.xfxforce.com and let me know the number.

Thanks a lot for your response. Yes, I get the BSOD when the crash occurs. I have not written down the BSOD error code, but the physical memory dumping occurs process occurs during the BSOD.

I just found out another weird thing. ntune says that I do not have any nForce drivers installed(such as audio, IDE, etc.). Since my DVD drive is screwed up I can't pop in the disc that came with the 650i, so I downloaded the driver package from NVIDIA. After the installation, Vista won't even boot up and gives me the BSOD! I had to use the recovery console on my Vista disc to fix the problem.

Is this sounding more like a bad board? Good thing is I got this from Newegg so the RMA is hassle free.
