Hey guys, i just put my old system back together and gave it to my brother, 3500+, 1gb ram, 6800gt.

however, extremely randomly, it just restarts, maybe like 2-4 times a day

i remember very vaguely when i just built the system, this would also happen, but it just stopped, or i did somthing, but i dont remember what

any ideas? thanks alot!

There can be many things that can be checked :-
--------------------------------------------------

1. Check the PSU in other machine.( May not be the case this time but still...)

2. Check for viruses.

3. Uninstall all drivers & install all the latest drivers from the manufacturer site.

4. Run the Disk Defragmenter for all the drives.

5. Check all the cables/connectors & connect them again if possible.

Don't forget to test your memory and set to factory specs if it isn't already (timings and voltage)

I am leaning more towards this or a PSU problem.

I've had both with my old AMD system, if the ram timings were to tight the thing would just up and reboot from time to time depending on what I was doing at the time, mostly during gaming though.

its on a HP mobo, hp pavilion a1130n

so it should detect auto timings, ill go in and check if i can at all change them, ram is in slots 1 and 2, which are both blue, 3 and 4 are black

the psu is a antec 480watt trueblue or somthing

I had problems with that same exact same PSU when I switched over from my old athlon XP to A64, the problem was even admitted to by Antec and they replaced the PCU's under warranty back in the day. I cann't remember the exact nature of the PSU problem, but I do remember that it was bad enough to cause random problems.

i updated the graphics driver and used driver cleaner pro, and its happening less often now but still is going on

im gonna check and make sure all things are plugged in correctly, he says it happens when, hes playing guild wars, and also when he minimizes in and out of other games.

This isn't a heat issue is it?

dont think so, cpu idles at 32, load at 42, mobo is at 40, hd is at 45 and GPU is at 60 and load 70

Ya should boot into memtest to check the RAM, and if that is fine then try running Orthos and ATI Tool simultaneously to load down the system and see if ya can force it to restart.

Did you check your system event logs for msgs and disable automatic restarts?

Ram timings to tight or not enough voltage or it could just be going bad.

I cant OC my P4 524 im on right now really MOBO just cant take it anymore i dont think lol the heats not to bad or anything but even a lil bit of OCing and she gets finicky same with the ram. cant push the 1T timing anymore at ddr 400 or i get odd restarts im down to 2T at 333 and everything is solid.

i cant change the ram timings in the bios, everything detects and goes auto.

i tried sticking one ram stick in, 512mb, and it has only restarted once so far

if it happens again im ognna pop the other one in and see what happens.

k so i did orthos blend test priority at 10 and ati tool scan for artifacts

and after 1 minute orthos failed.

and my temps were really high, there are no intake/exhaust fans right now, havent had a change to buy some

system is

amd 3500+
hp pavilion a11*0n
antec 480 true blue
512mb of kingmax ram, (the other 512mb has been taken out)

here is wat it said.

* i mentioned before in another post, cant remember it now

Well, that explains the restarts then. Either the RAM or CPU are not stable, verifying they both are set for the correct voltage and mem ratio / HTT would be the first step, and if they are you can try upping their voltages a bit to see if that helps. Otherwise since that is stock it looks like one of the parts failed or is failing... If you can switch the PSU with another I would suggest trying that as well and seeing if it still gives errors.

Is the CPU temp of 49C too high that it can cause restarts ? I also think that as all the parts are in stock, there must be some hardware failure or connection/installation problem.
