View Full Version : 650i board temp readings

Hey guys. I think the temperature sensors on the 650i ultra might be faulty. Both the "system monitor" utility and Speedfan reports my temperatures as:
CPU: ~55 idle
Main System(I'm guessing motherboard): ~35 idle

I think the sensors might have been switched. On my old motherboard, which I just swapped out last week with this new 650i ultra, my CPU idles at around 35. I'm running a Pentium D 805 with a Arctic Freezer 7 heatsink and fan. I had installed the cooler the correct way and there is barely wiggling room. In fact, I had just reapplied thermal paste(removed and purified with Arcticlean) and there should be no way that my CPU is idling at the 50s. On the other hand, the 650i NB uses passive cooling. That little NB heatsink burns to the touch, seems like it would be 55C-60C alright.

So I'm pretty sure the sensors are switched. What kind of temperatures are you guys getting..assuming I'm not the only one with a 650i. For the 680i and other Pentium 805 users, maybe you please tell me what kind of temps you guys are getting?

When I was doing my review of this board they came out with an updated BIOS that fixed the nTune issue with not reporting voltages correctly but it also lowered all temps by about 10c to a range where it was not physically possible.

If you are unsure check your BIOS amd if you think you have the updated BIOS email XFX for the original BIOS which puts the temps at the level they should be at.

Thanks for your reply Gonz! The problem is, I'm reading the temps with the original BIOS. In fact, I had just updated to BIOS 2.0 15 minutes ago, and the temps are still screwed up.

BTW, what temps are you getting for your 650i?

EDIT: Perhaps it was a Vista error. I just installed the latest Windows updates and now the temperature readings are more reasonable. My CPU is idling at 40-45C(it's 105F in the room, Davis, CA is a hot place) and loads(ORTHOS) @ 55-60. This is very believable because before the updates, the CPU temps were 55-60 even at idle. Thanks for the time Gonz!

This forum is definitely the place for help. Glad to see Gonz got you up and running. Gotta love those BIOS updates.
