I bought myself a new 7950GT 512MB AGP card to replace the old FX5500 card that I have had in my computer.

The following is part of the conversation that I have had with XFX tech support:

"I have had the card for over 2 months now, and it has worked wonderfully until tonight. I was playing Oblivion, and the game froze and booted me back into windows. The screen was full of static and random lines, but I could see the windows desktop. I shutoff the computer and rebooted it, and there was no signal provided to the monitor until it reached windows. Once there, there was the same static as before. I took the video card out, and replaced it with my old card, and everything is back to normal. I don`t think that the card is overheating, as it didn`t feel any hotter than normal, and also I have more than adequate ventialation in the case. Also, there is no dust or anything clogging the vents for the video card cooler."

Furthermore...

"The problem started when I was playing Oblivion, and I had all of the settings in the game turned to maximum. However, the dots and static and random lines continued when the game booted me back into windows, and even when I restarted the computer. Also, I installed the card back into the computer after clearing out the drivers, and it didn`t display anything, as if there was no signal getting to the monitor. When I started having problems with it, I was able to restart the computer and see a bit of stuff when I got into windows, but it wouldn`t show anything during POST. However, it does not show anything in POST or Windows now, but everything shows up fine when I use my old video card."

My XFX ticket number is 98481

Does anyone have any thoughts as to what might be going on?

It looks like the support team has already gone ahead and issued an RMA so that video card can be tested and replaced if needed.
