Hi
I am considering the XFX 8600GT Fatal1ty for casual game and HTPC.
I would like to reduce the heat generation because of a combination of concerns (high ambient temperature, reduced air flow, etc...)
I would like to know if it is possible to underclock the videocard?
Is there any utility or firmware that can do that?
Thanks a lot
Pascal

You can use Ntune or Rivatuner to underclock the video card, but then the performance is lessened. If you are worried about temps then I would recommend this 8600GTS as it is about the same price as the Fatality 8600GT after the rebate: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150227

But I am also very concerned with noise (specially for the HTPC part).
Just curious, how low can this Fatal1ty be underclocked.
I know it sound strange but could it be clocked at 8600GT speed?
Thanks a lot ;-)

Hi pascal2,
Read our review (http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=1123), I don't think sound or temperature will be an issue for the system you are planning with this card.

I bought and installed the XFX 8600GT Fatal1ty.
Connected it to a Panny plasma at 1080p and a Sony X-Black monitor and everything is fine. I will do more tests.
I am very happy and just want to say thank you all. :)
