Thinking that your X-FI is the ultimate sound card ? Well please read on.The chaps over at VR-Zone compared Asus' Xonar D2 sound card against six other sound cards from Auzentech, Creative, Audiotrak, and Tokyo Style in a group listening test. According to VR-Zone's findings, the Creative cards fare the worst, and the Xonar seems to be among the better performers. The card reportedly offers a 'much better' sound stage and separation than other offerings, and the resulting sound is said to be more detailed. However, the card's mid-range 'seems to be lacking a little,' and some of VR-Zone's testers believe audiophiles will prefer the Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1 XT.

ASUS offered the Xonar for review today. I must first see how to best review a sound card (been a while) but it would be fun to compare it to Creative's offering from a regular gamer/HTPC owners perspective.

I think looks alone make it better than the X-Fi ;-)

Yep, i also think so.It looks lot like a pricey graphics card (like the 8800 Ultra ?) though because of that heatsink & that's a fan, i think. If Asus is bringing the first sound card in the market it has to be special.

XONAR Sure looks better than X-Fi, it would be interesting to see if Asus can take X-Fi's dominance.
