Hi everyone, I've just joined today.
I own a Dell Latitude D510 laptop and most happy with it. The board is an Intel 915 type and the CPU a Centrino 1.73.
I was just wondering if it was possible at all to upgrade to the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors and if yes what should I do with software upgrades? Please help.
Thanks.

Just off of the top of my head but I do not think you can upgrade to a Core2Duo with an Intel 915 based motherboard.

Welcome to our community Eidbest. You'll need atleast a 946PL chipset. For more information & to compare the specifications , go here (http://compare.intel.com/pcc/showchart.aspx?mmID=890642,890439,884351,884354,89 0508,890509,888505,884352,888502,884355,890241,888 210,885034&familyID=1&culture=en-US) & check the chipset section to better know which Core 2 Duo CPU supports which chipset. So, sorry but you need to upgrade your mobo too.

Sorry to let you down Eidbest, but like the guys before me said, you'll have to use AT LEAST a 945P Chipset, but it's even recommended to have a 965/975 or 650i/680i mobo for best stabiliy/performance...:frown:
Anyway, GOOD LUCK and WELCOME to the forums...:icon_tiphat:

It is also quite hard to change a CPU in a laptop as you usually cannot just take out the old CPU and pop in a new one.
To get more speed out of your lapotp I would recommend adding as much memory as possible.

Welcome Eidbest. Unfortuntately everyone is correct, the 915 chipset does not support Core Duo or Core 2 Duo processors, and I would not recomend upgrading to a high clocked Pentium M. My laptop also happens to share this problem.
