View Full Version : 650i vs. 680i mobos?
Is there a major difference between these mobos? I own a 650i Asus. Is an upgrade really necessary; if so, how soon would I need to do this?

there is not to much diff. the PCI-E bus is faster on the 680i dual 16x as opposed to dual 8x aswell the 650i has no SLI memory support and seems to brick wall at 1000mhz for the ram. all in all the 650i is a great bored i just switched to a EVGA 680i from you exact board just for the SLI ready memory option i will never use...

Not on my board, no problem going past 100 on the ram and my ram is only rated to 800...........:ahhhhh:Seems to be a lot of user/maker issues here.

nice bio! how high of speeds have you hit with your 650i? i hit a brick wall on my p5n-e at 1000mhz using mushkin xp2-8500. now that board never really seemed to get along all that well with those sticks. zachig i believe found the same problem on his P5n-e, maybe just a prob. on them with the 1000mhz. i have read all across the net and not found a single soul to get that board past 1000mhz ddr2 speeds.

I can't really say for sure what the highest was, I've only really tried it when I first put the system together just to see if everything worked. I remember doing 495, 500 and 505 while I was messing around with timings and such, I'll have to see if I grabbed any screen shots or at least try things again later on after I get my new CPU today.
I found the screenie of 495 and 500, the 500 is with some pretty nice timings as well, 4-3-3-3-18...............:icon_tiphat:
thanks guys...... looks like I'm going to be stepping up to a 680i and grabbing a q6600 sometime in the near furture but I'm thinking about picking up some G SKiLL ram modules.
