" In the function department, our goal is to have this be a fully functional Media Center PC. Why clarify this? Well, we just want to let you know that this won't be a client PC, or a Media Server. In will be a fully contained unit capable of operating on its own. Developing a client/server plan for your home is a whole different story. A few of the functions we will cover are DVD playback, music playback, ATSC and NTSC capture and playback."
So, who needs an HTPC as a 2nd computer ?

I am not really a big fan of a small restritive type system and I will most likely never build a HTPC system because of that reason alone.

Ya, i also don't like HTPCs but it's quite useful who already does have another PC & maybe need another for the drawing room or the bedroom.I think, most people who buys HTPC already got the normal desktop.

I hate these HW guides that try and tell a persion what they need to build. It's all based on the writes likes and dislikes most of the time. Do your own research and be a man and deside for your selves.

I think they write the guides for noobs who's looking for a new HTPC but really don't know how to go about it.You are pro at these but not all people have a truckload of experiences/knowledges like you have. :icon_tiphat:

The majority of times they are all bias views of what to get but then I think they are aimed towards those who are computer iliterate.

Yeppers, guides like that generally are, but people really do need to start doing some research on their own so that they don't get screwed by someone trying to push something that they don't need or want.

You tell a computer illiterate user what to get but that leaves them high and dry as far as putting it together themselves goes; I guess they could spend their well earned cash since and pay someone.

ya, there are people whom you just can't be able to make understand that which is good & what's bad. They have their own mindsets & sometimes they won't hear what you have to say.Just for example, when i've suggested a customer to buy an Athlon 64 CPU to a customer, he replied " AMD processors runs very hot & i'll better buy something else " . I couldn't able to make him understand that Athlon XPs were hot but the Athlon 64s run pretty cool compared to the equivalent Intel CPUs (except the C2D).But he didn't want to listen to that though i've also shown some online reviews.

Funny thing about putting systems for some people is that I build all the systems for my son and his friends, and they are all super geeks. They just can't put together a clean, well laid out system with good wire management.

Most users just want a system put together and they don't care for any sort of wire management. I prefer a system looking as clean as possible.

You're 100% correct, but I still spend that little bit of extra time and clean up the wiring and such as best I can without going into drilling and cutting cases............:)

When I bought all my part I had no idea how to put a system together and just got my mate to do it for me. However he didnt do any kind of cable management and even left out some of the features like connecting the molex powered fans to the mobo with their smaller plugs so i can monitor speeds etc. He also left out connectign the cases firewire port, not that ill ever use it but it left the wire floating around. Since joining here I learnt a lot about case modding etc, and now have hardly any cables visible and have gone into the uv light and led side of things even. Anyhow I spose we are getting off topic here
