ok so i built a system for my family and there is a bit of a problem. i installed all the hardware correctly and hooked all the cables and power cables up and everything and it runs but whenever i start it up it just sits there and nothing shows up on the monitor. i just replaced the ram because the other sticks i bought were doa but i put the new ones in and now it just sits there and does nothing. i was just testing it with only the power cord and monitor plugged in, does it need a keyboard plugged in usb as well to start also i checked the jumper it seemed to be in the right position also. help would be much appreciated.

the first thing i would do is clear the Cmos. the old ram may have set some bad timings. clear the Cmos and do a tear down/rebuild real quick of all the periphs. toss it back together and let me know what sort of beep/light codes you get.

There can be many reasons for this problem. As you have already tried switching the ram, then if possible,re-install the CPU & the Graphics card again.I know you have done them all but it never hurts to try again friend. Also, did u attach the CPU 12 volt 4 pin power plug ? Also try clearing the CMOS information. If even after installing the devices again & clearing the CMOS won't work then i think the most prominent suspect is the GPU & then the CPU provided that your module/modules are ok.Also is there any kinda beep sound at POST ?

so rebuild it and take out the cmos battery?

sorry. take out the battery. first. rebuild with the bat out. this will clear CMOS for sure. once back together adn the battery back in fire it up. you could also clear the CMOS threw jumper aswell. if its possible i would test each piece i could in a known working rig. I.E. graphics card, ram, CPU if possible. rule each piece out indivually.
if you can try another video card on that set up even PCI if you can.

well the problem is is that i dont have another rig with some of the compatible slots otherwise i would do that but ill just try the rebuild i guess

Why do u have to take the battery out ? there should be a jumper to short which will clear the CMOS info. You'll find it near the battery or you could also see the mobo manual for the location of this jumper. If u r unable to find the jumper then take out the battery & if taking the battery out won't help, then try removing & attaching the devices again while watching all the cables & connections are secured.Let us know, what happens.

ok i took the ram and video card back out and messed around with some cables and checked everything again and then plugged the power in and monitor cable and it still just sits there but there is no beeping when it starts but it beeps with the ram out

Try unplugging your CPU then.Maybe the CPU doesn't have a proper contact with the heatsink. Most likely it's a CPU or GPU problem.it's hard to tell because you can't test them in other PCs but i think it's the GPU which isn't workin'.

well the video card seems fine its fan works and everything but ill take out the cpu and put it back in and see if anything changes

Ya, but seeing only the fan is spinning you can't be sure that it's ok.Fans can spin even if the card is damaged/not workin'.

you said your first set of ram was DOA. have you been able to boot this rig yet at all? can you test using a standard PCI video card?

I've a doubt that his video card is the source of his problems.Unless he can try his card in any other machine or putting another card in his machine,it's hard to tell which is creating problems.
