hi there, im not having a good day today..

i updated the bios of my xfx 650i ultra with the winflash using vista, winflash stopped responding half way through flashing. So i left it for a while and it started responding and said it flashed sucessfully. However the 650i fails to post, nothing happens, no video output or sound. Ss there a way to recover my bios since the chip cannot e removed..? also i have noticed there is a led next the the ram slots which is orrange, what does this mean, am not sure how long this has been orange

You can try what i did... i did an update with the winflash tool on my 680i LT and it did the same after the reboot... I pullede the bios batteri and let the computer stand with no power connected for 8 hours and then i came back to life..

thanks i will try that, i have tried disconnecting the battery already, but only for a matter of seconds.

Does anyone know what that orange light indicates? i cannot find such information in the manual.

Agree with the above....I flashed to version 3 using the winflash deal and the whole shootin' match died.

A trick I read about elsewhere....before you yank the battery, unplug your power supply, and hit the power button to discharge the capacitors, put the CMOS reset jumper in reset position, and then yank the battery and let it sit.

I had to let my machine sit for about 30 minutes (yeah, I was eager to get it going again) and it fired right back up.....had to re-configure the bios (as usual) but I'm rolling. Hope this helps

I think that orange led detects the ram, and the green led at the bottom of the board tells you power is ok. Since XFX doesn't mention anything about these in their pdf manual, we can't be sure what they're for. Also notice the manual says there is an 8 pin cpu power plug, when in fact it is only a 4 pin.

Whenever you update a motherboard's BIOS its always a good idea to clear the CMOS :icon_tiphat:

Yuppers, ain't that the truth, as a matter of fact, the instructions from "ALL" MoBo makers normally state that somewhere.

Also flash through other programs than what the board maker recomends can cause things to lock up and cause issues.

Safest method to flash a bios is and always be through DOS at the most basic level............;)

And always remember to clear the ever important bios.............;0

It's always a good idea to rest the bios back to defaults before flashing with a new Bios, OC'd systems can crash during a bios flash and compltetly kill a MoBO.

I will make a sticky post as this seems to be a common occurrence.

hmm after updating the bios, i cannot overclock my cpu (e6420), i used to overclock it too 3ghz with a load temp of 53, but now when i try to overclock it, even remotely to like 2200ghz, it just beeps and resets back to its default fsb and multiplier settings, but with my settings still inplace.

Any ideas?

regards,
Paul

hmm after updating this happened i now cannot ever clock my cpu (e6420), i used to overclock it too 3ghz with a load temp of 53, but now when i have try to overclock it even remotely, like to 2200ghz it just beeps and resets back to its default.

Any ideas?

Try playing with RAM timings and dividers. Also I would try upping the voltage on the mobo core, or MAYBE the RAM too. (be careful with RAM voltage)

If the beeping is three or four long beeps it is a RAM error. :icon_tiphat:

its one long beep.. what does that mean?

Also why should it suddernly stop working after updating the bios?
Ive even tried going back to the old bios and it still wont over clock anymore :s
