I have the 680i LT mobo. Can anyone who has the same board tell me which CPU coolers can fit this board due to the high northbridge? I am only certain of the Thermaltake TMG I2 so far, and not even sure of how good it is in comparison to other choices.
Thanks in advance...

A Zalman 9700 should be able to fit on that board. Here is the page with the spec sheet so you can measure just to make sure.

I can't be much help here except to say you had better measure very closely, that NB cooler is very tall. Most cooler makers have the specs of their coolers on their web site, or at least a Motherboard compatibility List.
Thermalright is one of the better sites that keeps their listings pretty much up to date.
Here's a example for their Ultra-120 eXtreme.

They also provide very detailed drawings of their coolers with all measurements.

I know Thermaltake's BIg Typhoon fits.
A better cooler that should fit is the Noctua NH-U12F.

Basicly whatever cooler you try to install, it will have to have around 1 and 24/32 inch clearance from it's base to the bottom of the first set of cooling fins, and that's cutting things pretty darn close.

Do you mean, from the base of the cooler to the top of the SPP?

That is what he meant. You can see that in the pic he posted with the ruler measuring the hight of the northbridge cooler.
I think the hieght clearance might be a tiny bit smaller because the cpu socket is slightly raised. Unless Bio-Hazard has already accounted for that.

I measured the cooler from the MoBo PCB to the top of the cooler. That came out to be 1 and 24/32 inches. The cpu socket heigth with the core installed would give you enough clearance to install a cooler as long as it has the clearance I measured, but like I said, that would be cutting it close.

Thanks for the replies, once again.
Looking at the info sheet for the Noctua-U12F, it doesn't look like it will fit as the clearance is only 27.5 mm (approx 1.08 inches). Unless I remove the SPP (NB) fan, which I do not want to do.
The Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme has a clearance of 41.4 mm (1.6 inches) which still seems to fall short of the 1 and 24/32 inch requirement.
Can't find the necessary info for the Big Typhoon or Zalman CNPS9700 though...anyone know where I can find diagrams?

I have been to many webpages and talked to people who has a zalman 9700 on the 680i LT without any problems, it was just very very close to the NB cooler:-D:-D I got the 680i LT and the zalman 9700 NT but i haven't installed it yet though:smile:

Well I bought the Zalman 9700 and I also have the XFX 680i LT and I read plenty of people say they slaped a 9700 on there to cool on Neweggs site, so it should fit =) also if you want to take up a little less room and help cool your northbridge better try this thing out

I have a q6600 on with a Zerotherm BTF90 on it and then 2 of those thermaltake extreme spirit II's one on the northbridge and one on the south as well... looks great and performs awesome. I also put a zalman vf1000 on each 8600gt xxx I have in the system. (I know its an 8600gt... I can see people cringing, but I already had 1 8600 gt and it was still working great so I got the other one for 99 bucks boxing week :). if it gets me by for the next year I am happy.)
