Got an E6850 today. Overclocked it easily to a 3.6GHz. Running nice and cool at 40C under full load and 18C at idle.
May try to push it harder latter but for the first couple of hours of use not bad.

That is one oh so sweet upgrade. Where can I find your system specs? Sounds like you got the parts to try going for the 3D Mark 06 record. Do you have an LN2 cooling setup hidden somewhere? ;-)

Nice OC Scott :icon_tiphat:
I'm anxious to see how far my E6750 will go. I'll have to wait until I get my 650i board back though.

Nothing but the best stuff huh?
He should be able to hit 4.0GHz without any problems.

yea, 600mhz is nice, but nothing compared to a 6300 1.8ghz to 3.6ghz, :P

I see it more of how high can you overclock as apposed to the frequency difference; 4.0GHz would be much sweeter than 3.6GHz :jawdrop:

:offtopic: I say we make a little poll.
Who thinks the next Nvidia cards will be 9800's? And who thinks they will be 8900's?
My vote is with the 8900.
sushrukh
08-09-2007, 11:13 PM
I think, you r saying 8900 because it's coming after 8800 ? MY vote is 4 9800. Btw,Scott which Vista version are you using sir ? X86 or X32 ? you've not mentioned it in your sig that exactly which version it is.
Scott
08-09-2007, 11:27 PM
32Bit.

08-09-2007, 11:38 PM
Ok thanks sir.:icon_tiphat: I've just got Vista 64 installed today & it's not at all like the XP 64 where 90% of 32 bit applications don't run.In Vista X64, nearly all programmes are running which runs in XP 32 bit.

i just upped myself to 4 gigs of ram here too. whats the best way to get it all allocated in a 32bit environment scott?. ive looked at the /3gig switch and such. right now i am showing all 4 gigs in sys. info but i only have 2.1 available... i am confused lol. i cant even find the PAE option on my 680i ref. board. how did yea manage to get 2.8 to show on your board? (mentioned in another thread)

Did not do anything special. Just running 1 8800GTX Ultra, in SLI I got 2.25GB of RAM seen.
sushrukh
08-10-2007, 12:37 AM
So,running a GTX & a Ultra in SLI is possible.
tyle6
08-10-2007, 02:00 AM
the GTX is an ultra isn't it??? thats what i took it as from his sig. sush. anyways i vote for the 8900! unless we see both at the same time... a nice 8900 that tops the GTX and just barly the ultra along with the 9800 a month later that will blow everything ever thought of before it right out of this world. LOL atleast i hope soo.
Schwarz
08-10-2007, 02:31 AM
We'll just have to ask scott when the 9800 comes out he's probably have one :p
the_dope_chaud
08-10-2007, 02:39 AM
I think it will be 9xxx series, they have ultra, high, mid and bottom range for this series, lets move on.... and lets hope the next series of midrange cards will not be like this one.

Better be careful Scott, I have a G0 Q6600 Quad on order that should at least do 3.6GHz minimum without hitting the volts... Should help with my overclocking guide I'm working on...
:offtopic: I say we make a little poll.
Who thinks the next Nvidia cards will be 9800's? And who thinks they will be 8900's?
My vote is with the 8900.
I'll take you up on that. Put me down for 9800. ;-)
1) Nvidia can tread all over ATI's very successful 9800 Radeon series name, which made Nvidia look pretty bad with their FX lineup at the time.
2) A single G92 offers 2x the performance of two G80 Ultras... that does not sound like a minor tweaked design, but instead a completely new design. 8900 would be fitting for only a minor tweaked uArch, so I think they will prefer 9800... Just my thoughts though, I could very well end up wrong.
Schwarz
08-10-2007, 02:52 AM
that performance is still just paper talk though Koug.
As far as if its going to be 8900 or 9800 I would guess 9800.
They will probably reserve the 8900 name for a tweaked G80 or something.

Geez, only the best for Scott, eh? ;) Nice CPU, nice score, can't wait to see if you can get it even higher! 8)

Till not the best 4 him.Just wait for Scott to buy a Quadcore & a G92.
Real nice scott. Although to be honest I expected a little more out of that score. Maybe you should oc it a little bit more?

08-12-2007, 08:37 PM
Thats with only one GTX right scott ?
You can't be running SLI...
tyle6
08-13-2007, 03:06 AM
no i dont think he is... might be wrong but that score seemed low for 2 cards. but he's in vista ultimate. so who knows.scott?
Schwarz
08-13-2007, 03:08 AM
Oh yah windows vista...i forgot about that.
I used to have around 3000 less 3dmark points on vista then XP.
Though my vist wasn't tweaked at all...
tyle6
08-13-2007, 03:24 AM
yea i was just above the 4000 mark when i was in vista. it really does rob you of the 3dmark points!!
Schwarz
08-13-2007, 03:46 AM
There's tutorials to tweak your vista but I think why have to go through all that trouble when you can just install XP.
Sucks for DX10 games though...
tyle6
08-13-2007, 05:19 AM
yea, theres tutorials to tweak XP aswell. half them i dont feel are worth it. and some are just randoms hacks with god only knows what reprecutions. i try to keep my OS as clean as possible.
Schwarz
08-13-2007, 05:53 AM
Nothing better then a clean install of XP in my humble opinion.
tyle6
08-13-2007, 06:05 PM
agreed. so was that in SLI or what scott? you haven't tryed XP on the rig have yea? if yea do post those 3d scores!

uhhh, yea lololol. dont know how we got onto this SLI thing all started with a comment about how much ram he could see when he had SLI installed LOL. wooops.
OK so what can you get with both them IN SLI does the reduced ram affect anything?
