Well, well, well, here I am again with another crazy computer issue. Why all of this is happening with the second rig, I have no idea. Okay, so here's the scoop (this time)-- I have a BFG 800 W PSU but it is my second one. The first one shorted out on me when I plugged in a second moniter to my power strip that my original moniter, my computer, and my speakers were plugged into.
I simply pulled the moniter out and zap. There was a slight electrical popping sound and the might BFG 800 W PSU was done for. It wouldn't do anything after that.
So, I took it back to Best Buy and swapped it out for another of the same exact model. If you have been helping me in the passed you may know that I recently had to get and RMA for my 8800 GTX XXX. Well, I got another one from XFX (your RMA Dept. rocks!!!!!) and plugged everything back into the PCI-e slot and put my two PCI-e power cords back into it. I cut on the power to my board and then I hit the power on button on the front of the case and 'pop'. Another of the BFG 800 W PSU goes down.
This time it happened right after I hit the power on button on my FOXCONN case. Remember last time it happened when I unplugged something from my power strip.
I called several technicians that I happen to know personally and I got these replies: bad PSU (unlikely as this is the second one to go), bad grounds on the motherboard (I checked and there is nothing behind the board and with a q-connector it's really hard to wire things wrong), unstable current from the actual socket (then why isn't all the other PSUs in the barracks blowing up like mine), and last but not least, a bad PCI-e slot on the motherboard itself (strange, I never had a single problem before).
Anybody out there got any ideas what's going on? I'm going to RMA my BFG 800 W PSU and in the meantime I'm going to go back up to Best Buy and get myself an Antec 650W (3 rails). When I get back my BFG I'm going to return the Antec when and if it works. If it goes bad again i'm going to upgrade my motherboard to an EVGA 680i or something like that.
Any ideas as to what could be going on? Once again, I would gladly appreciate your assistance!
