Hey,

So I've got a laptop, my old desktop (still mostly of parts from b3d :)), and a wireless router downstairs. I want to be able to access the files from the computer from the laptop (I want to get rid of the huge 19 inch CRT on my desk in the process).

I setup the desktop for remote desktop and have the desktop wirelessly connected to my router (802.11b). That's fine. However, what's not fine is that while I am in my room, my laptop's (Lenovo T60P) connection isn't that great to the router which makes accessing large files from the desktop a pain.

So when I'm in my room I want to lan the computers. Which is fine, but whenever I do so my internet stops functioning on the laptop. I suspect that windows is trying to access the net through the wired connection rather than the wireless connection.

What's the best way to remedy this problem? How can I control what services use what network connections in Windows XP?

It's good to see this place still around!

The only thing I could suggest is bridging the connections. Find your network connections and once you have highlight both of them and right click>bridge connections. You should do this on the laptop although you could do it on the desktop as well if you wanted.

Welcome chupacabras & for your question, try using Net Limiter (http://www.netlimiter.com/).It's the best software to monitor & control the network access activities by different services.
