when i put the CPU under full load i get an awful squealing nosie coming from my computer, and its not any off the fans. i also get a siren sound when using any 3D application. in contact with XFX help desk but they seem to be taking the time. could it could be my PSU dying?

thanks for your help

It could be, especially if you get a loud noise from the video card under 3d mode (some video cards will make a squeeling noise when it does not detect enough incoming power). What is the ticket number you created?

That's the samething that happened to my XFX 680i LT, in the end of a long RMA process they ended up replacing my board. I still to this day haven't tried reinstalling it to see if the problem is gone, but I'll get around to it when I get enough parts together to upgrade my wifes rig to a C2D.

I'd try a different PSU first before anything else to see if it's the problem, they make the same noise as the MoBo problem. Don't go out and buy one, see if someone will let you use one for testing ............;) If the sound is still there with a different PSU, it's more than likely the MoBo.

oki, i've the ticket hasnt been replied to all day =/ apart from when they asked me to register the board >< Ticket number is: 107630

i forgot to add my system specs oops =P using Vista x64

E6600
2GB GeIL 4-4-4-12
8800 GTS 640MB
X-Fi
Tagan 530W PSU

tomorrow morning will try a different PSU, luckly have a spare one. (got one waiting to be returned as my dad ordered the wrong one for my mums PC lol) upgraded to this board 'cos my P5N-E SLI kept breaking whenever i used 4GB of RAM, gotta get the RAM fixed tomorrow. So if i dont hear the squealing with my mobo with the other PSU i'll be getting a new one x,x but i'm sure the sounds are coming from the motherboard.

There was the same problem back with the first generation of 680i boards and it looks like it may have carried over to the 680i LT series a little. When I was told to RMA my board it came back as faulty after testing. I've heard of only a few with this problem (different vendors) so you shouldn't have a problem getting a good board back in return.

Ding!

Quick google search will probably convince you it's not the PSU squeeling...lol

My board squeels...but my system is loud, so I don't really care.

I already know that it's not the PSU, I had the same problem with my 680i board that was already RMA'd for the exact same issue. Swapping the PSU is just to take it out of the picture ............:jawdrop:. They do make the same type of noise when the caps start to go bad.
Tech support will ask you about this when you start talking to them, so it's best to get it out of the way early while you're waiting for them to reply.

So why don't you RMA your board? Bio just said that it could be a sign of the capacitors going out.

i have the P05 BIOS on the motherboard and reverting to the one that came with the board did not fix the squealing. also i have tried using a different PSU. i still have the same squealing noise. it souns like a fan when CPU is under full load.i have tested this by not using any fans. also the siren sound comes when i run a 3D application.

n XFX support via tickets is useless x,x

Sometimes their support takes a few days to get to you, but the support guy here is normally a very big help in moving things along.

He'll have to wait for the support staff to answer back on his support ticket aproving his RMA, as I said above, this can take a few days sometimes depending on how busy they are.

meh...Like I said, my system is loud, and I pump a lot of v into the chip, so I expected some squeeling to begin with. If a cap goes, then I'll use my old P5W while I RMA the board.

If you have a backup mobo, why not just get it over with and send in your soon-to-be-faulty board for an RMA? It would just save you a hassle in the long run when you might actually need it.
