Ye for some reason most sata hard drives are listed in there. I believe it is because of the hot swap feature of sata hdd's. Kinda like a flash drive, its better to make sure it is not transferring data before you take the sata cable out of it

It's a great feature, hot swaping, .....:) No worry about making sure that it's not transfering data because as soon as you unmount the drive through the remove feature and Windows confirms that it's removed, no more data is sent or received from the drive.
It's best to have a removeable HD rack for hot swaping though, it eliminates all the problems of disconnecting power and data cables fron the drive with the computer powered up.

With nvidia chipsets, if you install the nvidia IDE driver it causes your SATA drives to show up under that group.
You can't accidently remove a HDD from there. (I've tried). It is a bit annoying for me to have the icon there if all I have are my HDD's connected. But the driver is needed for the newest nTune to work properly it seems.
Anyways if it annoys you, next time you format and reinstall your drivers, don't install the nvidia IDE drivers. I think windows driver works better here.

Yah I had this with XP and Vista, Even if I had my two sata hard drives in RAID 0 they would both show up individually in the quick remove icon thing. It bothered me but I got used to it after a while.

I have to have the Nvidia drivers if I want to use my hot swapable drive rack, if I don't the only time I can pull the drive is after the system is shut down. As it is now, all I need to do is unmount the drive, switch off the power and unlock the rack and pull it out. Makes it super easy to take along to my sons house for a little software updating.

Ive unplugged my SATA drives from the board before while booted into Windows (on the IDE drive) and nothing happend. Still going fine. Its like a flash drive, thats why they created eSATA.

LOL.......that's why they call it a hot swap feature, but mot all MoBo support the feature (older ones)...................;)
