Does this mean that companies like EVGA, XFX and BFG will stop selling motherboards soon as all their products are from Nvidia's motherboard standardization scheme..................:icon_tiphat:

Although Nvidia was expected by motherboard makers to cut into the motherboard market with its "Designed by Nvidia" scheme, Drew Henry, general manager of MCP business at Nvidia recently came to Taiwan to clear the speculation in the market, while promoting the company's upcoming MCP 73 chipsets.
Nvidia pushed the standardized motherboard specification to assist makers in saving costs, pointed out Henry. It could help makers with fewer research resources to launch products quicker, while the more capable makers would be able to add their own exclusive functions to differentiate themselves in the market. However, many makers were confused by the scheme, and therefore Nvidia has decided to stop using it, but the strategy of pushing standardized motherboard and graphics cards will continue.

I think (or hope) it means Nvidia will only build "reference board" designs, and leave it to the end seller to decide on what they do or do not want regarding features and modifications. More individualization should be better, as opposed to almost everyone selling clone motherboards which they had been doing with the "Designed by Nvidia" nomenclature.

This last part in your quote confused me a bit:
"but the strategy of pushing standardized motherboard and graphics cards will continue."

So does that mean Nvidia attempted to try something different, but failed, so they are going back to what they did before?

I think it just means that with video cards you will continue to see many reference based boards. This is what allows new vendors to produce cards for less money then designing their own board around a chip.

They will continue to "push" for standardized motherboard but it seems like they won't be the ones doing the designing.

We will see how the market reacts in coming months.

Well looks like a shift back the the old days may be coming...

This could be a double edged sword. It will bring verity to the market but might drive up costs as company's have to spend more to design the board them selves.

I am ok with this as i like to have real choices. Just choosing what name is on the board cause they are all the say is not really a choice as i see it. I don't care about bundles as i almost never use the stuff they give you anyway. I don't even use the driver disks i download the new ones form the web every time. Since i have a second PC to use.

Last line doesn't make much sense, but i think i get it. They want makers to use a standard design but will not provide it for them.
