Hey guys, got a new laptop today and a router- to be simple- i cannot connect it to the wireless. The SSIP name is set up and so is everything else that goes with it on my main PC which is running vista and connected using a wire to the wireless router. \here is also a secondary PC connected using wire to the same wireless router. For some reason my laptop isnt finding the wireless signal- the Wireless card is set to on and to find the network automatically- i have no idea how to do this and have never have any:keepfolding: previous experience doing this before... HELP pl0x :ahhhhh:

OK what I have found with some routers is that they can hide the ssid signal from being broadcast and that the devices connecting to them will have to have a profile set up manually to connect. Just check in the router options that it is not hiding the signal. Its just as easy to enable it and activate WAP.

If thats not the problem, then try setting up the network with no security to start with and have your laptop right next to the router. Then try restarting your laptop and router in different orders. I know it sounds silly but I've had to set up a few of these for family members and with not knowing that much about networks these are things I have just found work a lot of the time

OK 1st what kind of wireless router is it? Like what brand? 802.11g or is it newer and have 802.11n?

And, what you should do is go onto one of the computers that is connected to it via ethernet/usb. Then, there will be in the manual or something somewhere where it says what the address is to lcoate your routers main settings. for instance mine is http://10.0.0.xxx/index.htm (not going to give u the last 3 numbers in case it can be used against me lol)

Inside your router options you should find like a setup guide or something. I would suggest going through the setup guide and entering the SSID again and all options how you want them, just to be sure.

If you dontwanna do that then just have a look around for a security setting. There should be a few options like WEP or WAP. WAP is much harder to crack that WEP. Basically it will tell you how long the code needs to be, then all you have to do is set your laptop profile up with the same SSID and key and then hopefully it will connect...

yeah as a matter of fact I did exactly what you suggested (as it says in the manual) with no luck, my wireless router is an 802.11g- Ill just get my friend to help me set it up in real life. I appreciate your efforts anyhow... :) :keepfolding:

My MSI lappy also has got an external on/off button for wireless. Most new noteboks are coming with that button. For me if you keep this button on,you won't have to turn it on again even if you shut down the lappy.Btw,good to know that it's working mousi.
