I am slowly getting around to doing some things on Darky and I had this idea when I pondered the ability to find two Crossfire compatible video cards with black PCB.

I decided I no longer needed to find 2 cards with black PCB, I will use the two I have for Mr. Blood Sucker and put painted covers on them...painted black, of course.

I finished fabricating and forming them and the only thing left is to clean them up and paint them.

Here's what I have. It started out with this mock-up cover to test and determine:

I like it so now was time to make the actual solid versions and when I get some mesh, thanks to the suggestion of a person in another forum, I'll make a couple out of mesh.

Anyway, here the forming process:

I went ahead and fitted the covers to the cards and I'm liking the bare aluminum appearance. :)

Thats a pretty cool idea. I wonder how the covers will effect heat dissipation.

If I can find some thermally conductive dual-sided adhesive type rubber like that used on chipset heatsinks...that doesn't have metallic particles that conduct electricity...it should help with heat dissipation. The aluminum covers will basically be heatsinks.

I do not think that will allow heat dissipation as much as act like a blanket and insulate instead making the cards hotter. Just my opinion and would like to see the results. Perhaps taking the temperature before and after to see if it helps or hinders. But they do look awesome though. Good work!

That is one thing I always wondered. Why do companies make the card all pretty when it is going to be face down anyway. Why can't they make the cards facing the other way so they do look cool on modded or side window cases.
