As those of you that spend a portion of your time here at Bjorn3D on a regular basis are aware, we have grown significantly. This growth is evidenced in both membership and in the number of reviews we are doing. For that reason and to keep from burning out our current staff, we again need to expand our review staff. I thought I'd give the members here that might be interested the first crack at applying before I put it on the front page in the News section...here's the requirements:

Job: Bjorn3D Staff Reviewer (2 or possibly 3 positions)

Expectations: An average of two completed reviews that are ready for publication each month ... this may vary slightly depending on demand and the products being reviewed

Compensation: In almost all cases you will be allowed to keep the product you review

Requirements:

1. Should have reasonable command of the English language as that is the language of choice for all our reviews

2. Prior experience in writing computer products reviews and conducting benchmarks is preferred but not required. Good grammar skills are a must.

3. You should own or have access to a 4.0 MP or higher digital camera

4. You should have several hours a week of free time as writing a quality review takes time

5. You must have a powerful, up-to-date computer system. Preferably either an Intel Core 2 Duo or Quad based system. Having more than one system is a definite plus.

5. You should have an overall above average aptitude for computer systems and enjoy changing and testing components on a regular basis

6. You should be a responsible individual who has the ability to work under a deadline and follow a predetermined format, as well as a team player.

7. A working knowledge of HTML and XHTML is a definite plus but not a necessity

8. You should own or have access to a photo editing software and be reasonably knowledgeable of its use

9. You must live in the continental United States

If interested please send your resume and/or questions to Miles via PM or Email.

Serious inquiries only!

I'd love to have a crack at it, but I lack a "powerful" machine (mine is fairly decent) and a 4MP cam (3MP sony cybershot).

This is a great chance for all you want-to-be reviewers out there, so step up to the plate and take a shot at it..........;). I for one am enjoying my freedom of not writing for anyone anymore and not having to deal with the stress, so I won't be looking into this, besides, my digi cam is to old to meet these standards anyways and I'm not in the financial situation right now to go out and buy a new one just to review hardware.

Too bad I live in Canada. I have a 3.1MP camera, but I do plan on getting a new one.

Requirement "9." would hinder my chances plus having a job makes it hard to write any sort of review so either way I would be out.

I would totally do it, but there are a few downs why I can't do it. One is because I have school, and a bunch take classes that take a long time like Film Making, Trig/Calculus Honors, and other Science classes. Not to mention I do not hava a up to date computer, which would be the processor and motherboard. Thanks for the oportunity though. Maybe when I am out of school I'll be able to join the group. :)

I applied the last call for reviewers, might as well try again with another year of college under my belt.

Hmm, the requirements sound interesting, I will have to hunt down my resume off my currently out of commission computer (the RAM became bored with life).

The same for me...:frown: As most of you already know, I'm working as Service and Customer Support Engineer for a company that deals with PCB (Printed Circuit Boards). Now...I'm an Israeli guy that relocated for several years to the states, but recently I left back to Israel (but I still keep my apartment in New-Jersey, that why I have an address there and I'm also getting some of the prizes to there and I have someone to send me them to Israel...).

But I'm still travelling from time to time around the world: USA, Belgium, Austria, China, Taiwan, Hong-Kong, Japan and Korea...

I would love to give a hand, but it means you'll have to send the stuff to Israel, and beside that, I cannot guarentee I'll have enough time to do a lot of reviews as like I said, I tend to travel a lot...:frown:

The problem guys as we've discussed before is that virtually no manufacturer outside of Canada will ship review samples there because of the associated duties and customs BS. It's a 100 times easier for me to recevie a package from Taiwan or Scandinavia than for them to ship to Canada.

Damn you Blue Moon. I am going to steel your core 2 duo someday. :) just kidding with you. :) I would have a really nice computer if I would steel your motherboard and your processor. Of course there are better processors and motherboards out there, but yours is still a blast. :icon_tiphat:

Well we already discused this before so no need to go over it for me.
I still like to write little home made un official reviews when I buy or win a product.
People still get to read them and I at the same time contribute to bjorn3d with not much but a little more to read :)

Victor
09-18-2007, 07:55 AM
that sounds like good idea Schwarz. If you ever decided to move to the states, we sure will be more than happy to have you onboard:).

Schwarz
09-18-2007, 08:05 AM
Well you've probably seen those little articles I wrote here a few times though right Vic?
They are nothing big but like I said they make a little more to read and gives people my opinion and benchmark results on the items at hand.

I guess that's what I'll do (or at least try to do...;-)) from now on, whenever I'll buy or win a new product. That's the minimum I can do for such a great community/forum as Bjorn3D.

I'll do my best to write a review soon on the Ultra Products 7-Port USB Buddy Hub I've won recently at www.overclockersonline.com. I don't want to promise, but I really hope I'll find the time to write it...:icon_tiphat:

I for one am enjoying my freedom of not writing for anyone anymore and not having to deal with the stress, so I won't be looking into this.

That should bring'em in. I was just telling myself this morning...I said, "Self, you don't have enough stress in your life. You need to step it up a bit."

Just kiddin', I know what you mean and I would love to do it. It sounds like fun. I just can't fit it in right now.

Bio-Hazard
09-19-2007, 05:53 AM
It can be very stressful depending on who you write for.......;) I haven't a clue what's it's like to write for these folks, but over the past 5 years or so, I've written for more than a few folks that if I had known better at the time, I would have never gotten involved with them in the first place.

But Scott anf the lot, all seem to be real good folk in general and if I were to get back into this business, they would be one of a very short list of places I'd like to write for.

Well as the new kid on the block I can tell you all that the only stress I have from writing for B3D is the stress I place on myself.

I am a perfectionist and that comes with a few positives and many negatives but Miles, Scott, Bjorn and the rest of the staff have been great lending a hand whenever I needed help.

The time factor is an important one and it does take some time to be thorough but in terms of stress I would say this site ranks as lowest for causing stress.

09-19-2007, 07:10 PM
Sorry you had that experience Bio, I've recently started doing reviews for a site and can tell you that the only stress (like The Gonz) is what I put on myself. Yes there are deadlines, but for the most part its somewhat enjoyable. I can imagine by looking at the forums here at Bjorn3D, I couldn't imagine this being a stressful bunch. :)

My biggest problems came from having more than a few issues with items, then trying to contact the site owner about the issues and not getting any response for weeks and then getting calls at home from the vendor asking where the review was junk like that, now how the heck they got my home number to call annd bother me I'll never know. This sort of thing has happened at 2 different sites so far and I see no reason for it at all.

Didn't we get a few reviewers a few months back if I remember correctly? What ever happened to them or is Bjorn3d getting to a point that more are needed period?

Ranzear
09-26-2007, 12:21 AM
I would love to do it, but I wonder what other hardware I would be able to run it against. The thing about benchmarks is keeping all the variables constant, which means you need to put the competing hardware in much the same situation, and this is what I lack.

Though... if you sent me a Phenom I'd be more than capable of running the crap out of it =D

It's already been posted numerous times that anyone outside of the US is not eligible to apply... It's sad but true. :(

Miles
09-27-2007, 11:59 PM
I truly wish we could have Canadians and members from other countries on our team as all of you have quite a bit to add to Bjorn3D! The issue is primarily getting you product in a timely fashion from vendors outside of your Country.

I've seen too many horror stories where products that were brand new and not yet released were sent out for a major review to reviewers in other countries. Said review was dated and anything hitting the WEB past that date was, well let's just say not well received by the manufacturer. The stories I referred to had products either tied up in Customs or as late as two weeks being received by the reviewer. That's why most companies will not ship outside of the US. I can get a product, as I do quite often, direct from Taiwan or Austia without an issue and within a day or two of the scheduled arrival date. Unfortunately that's not the case every where else.

Schwarz

Its quite sad for canadians since we are right next to the states...but laws are laws and we can`t undo them.

I'd really love the job, but I lack a high performance PC. Don't get me wrong, my PC isn't half bad. I just don't have that super high end water cooled quad core, 8800GTX's in sli, and DDR3 RAM machine lol.

My pc specs.

X2 5200+ @ 2.6Ghz
WD Caviar 250GB HDD
2GB's PC2 5300 + 2GB's PC2 4200 @ 533Mhz (4GB's total. CAS latency @ 4)
EVGA 8800GTS 320MB superclocked (576/850)
Asus A82MNLA (could be upgraded if you guys are interested in letting me review)
NZXT Zero case

I've done some small reviews before for other websites, but nothing major. Also on the camera, I have a Sony Cybershot 3.2MP camera. I know you guys require a camera with 4MP+. That could be arranged and upgraded also.

Here's a link to a small review I've done about six months ago.
http://rc-palace.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=264

Here's a more recent review. (It's more of my thoughts on the product than a review)

Anyway, let me know if you guys are interested.

Well I can not get you hardware down there to review right now. But I do have a position open for news person.

This would be different from what Victor does which is rounding up the news that gets sent to us. I am looking for someone to post new about interesting things they find going on in the tech industry and electronics stuff. You could look at HardOCP's front page for an example of the different type of stuff I want us to be find out about.

If you did this and performed well over time I might be able to get some of my Pacific Rim companies to get you stuff to review.

Let me know if you are interested and Miles and I will talk to you about it.

Scott

I think I will meet all requirements in a few weeks. I have lots of free time, understand benching, have a fair all around knowledge of hardware, write well, and I am reliable. So why the two weeks? My new system will not be online until then.

Just as a sidenote, would taking a position (any position) disqualify you from participating in certain contests. On some computer tech websites it does.

yes, if you are a staff, you are not eligeable on any of the contest.

It's a rewarding job. Scott is easy to work with. If any of you guys are interested, get in touch with Scott or Miles. any question, simply ask.

While I certainly as interested I lack or am too close to the edge on some of the qualifications I would need, including a powerful computer. Though this computer is decently powerful it's a notebook, which is a problem in itself. I should have my new build done by the summer, but that is cutting it a bit close. Perhaps in 9 - 12 months or so this might be a serious option, but I wouldn't want to jeopardize Bjorn3D just in case some of the other possible problems materialize. That being said I might be able to help alfhenrik out with news posts and things like that, since I seem to be on enough to do that anyway and have some experience with it.

Victor
