Im having an prob with the Ati tool when i try to run the artifact scan.
When i run the scan my system seems to lock up for some reason, sometimes it will unlock or just reboot the system

Did a clean/fresh install of the OS this morning also - Win XP Pro Sp2
Reason i put XP on today was because i had Vista on it & the gamming sucked on it

Ive tryd to run the scan a default clock & at OCd
Ive tryd using a little bit older of a driver & the latest also & no diff.

I can OC no prob with Riva tune & Coolbits & run games like DiRT& Oblivion fine.

Any suggestions on how to try fix it at all

Specs
1GB Memory
AMD x2 3800 @ 2.4 GHz
BFG 7900 GS OC @ 570MHz / 1.65GHz
300w PSU

To make sure, are you running it before overclocking or after? If it is after then I highly suggest downclocking it to normal speed and then seeing what happens. Ive had my system crash on me using the artifact scan but that was only when I had my core and/or mem clocks too high

Doesnt seem to make a difference when its default clocks, or OCd clocks ( low & high clocks ).

And when playing Dirt & Oblivion it seems to run fine....no gltches.
DiRT def has better FPS on XP than Vista.......stupid vista im glade i have XP back on :)

I would only run ATi Tool before overclocking and going from there.

When using an Nvidia card with ATi Tool it's best to go into the options and check the box for old scanning method. This will be more compatible with Nvidia cards and artifact scanning.

XP gets better FPS than vista is because Nvidia's drivers for Vista have been...well...crap. Vista just barely outperforms XP in everything else for me. Once drivers get cleaned up it should be good to go. But everyone's box is different so...

I wouldnt suggest using ATI Tool on Nvidia cards anyways. And im suprised your PSU is handeling that system. With, or without an OC.

Ive tried Ati tool by its self & still freezes on me :(

oh & my 300w PSU is good enough for this setup......now if i had a 8800 GPu that would be a different story l

Are you using ATI tool for overclocking, or stability testing?

I have found it to be a pain in the neck to overclock with, so I just use Rivatuner to overclock, and ATI tool scan to test for artifacts.

well i dont know this time i decided to try to just disable the other software & Ati tool seems to wanna work today.
Didnt yeterday but did today ?????

So i just used Ati tool again to try to OC it.
so far the cores @ 570 & the mems @ 1.6GHz & used the old scanning for it also seems to help out alot more also

i guess yesterday it was just tempermental & i think my card needs a little cleaning sinc the last couple days (before OCing) its starting to idle at 43c before it was 39c. Its only a little bit of a diff but makes a difference when im playin a game u know the cooler the better right;-)

Well all i know is that that DiRT looks good running @ basically full settings & thats what counts to me ;)

Anyways thanks for all the tips

How hot does your PSU get? You should be careful not to undervolt your card. It may not seem like it, but that could be happening. You wont see anything wrong until its to late.

actually the PSU seems to be ok not getting over hot or anything like that

You might want to put your PC under a load and use a multimeter to test the amperage on your 12v line while under load.

Put your PC under a load with like 3dmark06 or something and put the ground on your case and the positive in a 12v line of a molex. THats how i do it and im getting pretty good readings. Pretty redneck about it but i was told it works. Same can be done for the 5v as well. Imo it seems its the same way the bios reads your 12v as well.
