I'm thinking of putting togeather a new PC and was trying to research a good MOBO and make sure that I have enough power for the system. I've no intention to use crossfire / SLI and was going to plump for an Intel 975X S775 Express ATX DDR2 (£127) but I've just the P35 chipset review and was wondering if I should go for something from Asus with a P35 chipset instead?

I was going to use Corsair Memory 620 Watt for power (£90) - do you think that will be enough?

The rest of the system was going to be...

Samsung DVD+-R/RW SATA
Western Digital Caviar 250GB S300 8mb
NXZT Hush Case
Corsair Memory TWIN2X2048-6400 2x1GB 240-Pin DIMM XMS2-6400 C45
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 S775 2.66ghz 4mb Cache 1333FSB
Gigabyte GeForce 8600GT 256MB DDR2 PCIE

That power supply should be fine, even with at least 1 8800GTX.

I have had great experience with the P5N32-E SLI from Asus, or I have heard great things about P5N boards.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010200280+50001315+107171927&name=nVidia+nForce+600

that shows the full line of 600 series chipsets from Asus.

You mentioned that you have no intention of SLI'ing, However that is something you might want to reconsider. In a few months when 8600GT's are $50, getting another for SLI is a great idea.

Speaking of 8600GT's, look around for a better model, DDR2 for VRAM is a bad idea, look for a model with DDR3. Just remember to look at the DDR type before you buy, some will use 512 mb of DDR2, and hope the nice big "512" gets people to think it is good.

The Corsair 620W is a VERY GOOD choise and it'll be MORE THAN FINE for the spec you gave...:icon_tiphat:

Like trueg50 said, you can easily work even with a 8800GTX with that PSU.

I'm currently running a 8800GTX with my Mushkin 650W and E6600 CPU and I have no problems at all...

There is almost no reason to buy an older chipset over a P35 board, I would strongly suggest sticking to P35 for the improved performance and features.

The Corsair 620watt PSU is more than plenty, and can power much more than just a 8600GTS.

I join Kougar, as I think there's no point in buying an old mobo, and even further, I think it'll be better to buy a P35 over a 680i board for example and you can get it for the same price if not less. :icon_tiphat:
