OK, i have a few question here. first is machine IDs if i am running muliple machine on my network, do they all need dif machine IDs? and what about the GPU console? does it need a seperate machine ID as the console on that rig?

Yes, you do need a different Machine ID for each client no matter what type of client you are using if you have more than one CPU like Dual-Core CPU or more computers working. :icon_tiphat:

OK. so my PIII needs a dif machine ID for its console then my core2dou on the same network? meaning no more then 8 machine on a given network?

I am not sure about that, but I do know that every computer or CPU needs to have it's own machine ID. Sorry that I cannot help you with your second question. I guess you will have to wait till somebody replies to this thread who knows more than what I do know. :ahhhhh:

ok, well thanks. so i set up two console on my core2dou. one as a service and one simple console. i used the -local switch. my question is what is its function.? does it make the console look in its dir. for the config file only? as for the network. i do not believe i need seperate machine IDs there. I am setting them to a diff machine ID for safety anyways.

sorry about the double post but this is a whole different topic. when i check my stat. on stanfords site it only shows me as having 2 cores online? whats with this i have atleast 3 online i figure 4 as im running two consoles on the core2?

You need to change Machine ID's if you are running more than one instance of F@H on the same machine. IE: Core2Duo comuter: 1st Core = Machine ID #1, 2nd Core = Machine ID #2. No more than 8 ID's per computer, not that it can happen atm...
Not sure about changing ID's if you are using both the console and GUI F@H though... maybe it's in the FAQ? :?

the GUI is useless. i found it to be nothing more then a way to get people with not enough skill to use the console folding!! you cant change the machine ID with the GUI it says in the fact adn they dont reccomend using it with the console anyways. Personaly i have found installin F@H as a service to be the best option.
this leave me some CPU power to use if i want and it starts folding for me as soon as i boot. if i want to max out the cores i just start up a second console and let it work too.
F@H as a service should be an essential service in the windows OS LOL its only using idles processes anyways!
From what i found you do not need dif. machine IDs on a network or cluster behind a firewall or not. the CPU has its on unique identity ## aswell as a machin ID##.

Machine ID doesn't matter outside of the individual PC, so with your network it is not an issue. Regarding Stanford not showing all your CPU's, did you give it time to receive completed WU's and process them? Otherwise I wouldn't know about that one.

yea, they are showin up now with a couple others helping me out!! thanks guys!!!! I dont think i could do it without you!!
anyways, Do i need to use the -local flag with the GPU client when im using the console as a service as well on that machine?

I am not sure, but probably a good idea to do so just incase.

yea, i was having trouble running the GPUconsole with that arguement. it kept crashing. The cpu console was given that arguement just fine though. so i am running that as a service with -local arguement adn the gpu just as a console without it and things seem to be fine other then the P4 is hurting for speed in the WU. actually the X1650 is smokin it!!!
the P4 took 26 hours to finish a 250 step WU the GPU in 18 hours has completed approx. 48 percent of a 5000 step WU!!!!
The GPU console is smokin!! anyone with a radeon outta give it a try.
i couldn't get it set as service and running, well i gave up after one try as F@H is already a service now on that machine.
actually, i haven't been able to set 2 services as yet on anything for F@H? is this a reg. entry prob?

You are using both the CPU and GPU F@H programs on a Pentium 4? It was highly recommended that GPU clients be given a dedicated CPU core because with the x1900 cards they needed a CPU core to manage the graphics driver overhead, and loading down the CPU would dramatically slow down the GPU folding.
I'm not sure how much of a load on the CPU a x1650 would be, but you should try without the CPU client if you only have a single CPU core and see what sort of improvement you get.

humm, i will see. I haven't noticed any sort of slow down in the folding. CPU usage jumped from 50% to about 65-70%. i will stop the CPU and see what sort of GPU performance i get tonight.
A big thanks goes out to all you guys who heped me get all 15 WU allready!!!! welll 14 right now, 15 is at about 95% on my AMD. again Thanks a million. couldn't have done it without your help!!
