Download RivaTuner-- its way better than even the "stock" drivers for monitoring things like system, cpu and gpu temps.

I agree, if you are not a fan of ntune RivaTuner is also a great program.

These drivers suck, I lost 1000 points in 3dmark05, I went back to good old 92.91 best drivers ever made!!

Did you mod 92.91 yourself or did you download them from the XFX site? Also, did you find them to be better than the drivers on the CD?

Actually, I should have said Xtreme-G 92.91. Anyways, yeah I had to mod the .INF and they do give better performance over all other drivers I have tried.

I have had very little luck with anything over 1xx.xx.

For that, you can use the Gainward ExperTool.Everything is present at the touch of a mouse button & stays in the taskbar. It supports Overclocking, temperature monitoring & Automatic & Dynamic fan control all at the same place which can be accessed by just righ clicking on the taskbar icon.

The tool is available here :-http://www.opendrivers.com/freedownload/237533/gainward-expertool-5.0-windows-9x-me-2000-xp-xp-x64-download.html (Try dwlding from last two sites).

To access the GPU temp, you just need to right click the taskbar icon & click on " Fan Control " .You can't get anything simpler than this.

Is it only for Windows XP?

I'm asking this because I check at nVidia and the latest (WHQL) driver I could find for Vista 64-Bit is the 163.69...:-?

Ya, 163.71 is only for XP (for now) while the .69 are for all the OSes.

Oh...I see. :frown: ;-)

I thought maybe there is because there's a Windows Vista 64-Bit BETA driver, which was 163.71.

Thanks anyway :icon_tiphat: and I'll just wait for next Vista 64-bit WHQL driver, as I didn't hear "that" good reviews on the Vista 64-bit WHQL 163.69 version...:frown:

I have that very same driver from Xtreme G! I dont know how to mod them though... how do you do it? I cant seem to find the .INF either. Do you have XP SP2?

First off, you have to unpack the driver files, I usually just run the setup and it unpacks it for you, make note of where the files where unpacked to. After everything is unpacked go to that directory and edit the file called "nv4_disp.inf", you will have to add 2 lines:

Under [NVIDIA.Mfg], add:
%NVIDIA_BR02.DEV_02E4.1% = nv4_NV3x, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_02E4

Under [Strings] (Localizable Strings), add:
NVIDIA_BR02.DEV_02E4.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GT"

BTW: I am using XP SP2

edit: I realize this is off topic, but I like to post those strings for everyone to see, in case they need them.

I posted in the Sticky driver thread over a week ago, but have received little help. Problem is, every driver I have tried since buying this card months ago has cut my performance in half.

I mainly use 3DMark '05 and use Aquamark for a quick estimate of performance. The driver I have now, 93.82 gives about 66,000 in Aquamark and over 8,000 marks in 3DMark 05. I tried these 163.71 drivers and got 33,000 in Aquamark and a little over 3,000 in 3DMark, so less than half.

Why is that? Am I never going to be able to increase my performance? I've tried about 10 drivers now with the same results. At least the 163.71's recognize the card...

I have found with the 7950GT AGP that any driver 1xx.xx and above doesn't work worth a damn. The same goes with Vista drivers, this card just doesn't like newer drivers.

Thanks for posting the mod earlier...I did a search on my computer and found like 5 of those .inf files so I changed them all. BTW for anyone who has a 7900GS AGP just change all the E4 to E3 and the "7950 GT" to "7900 GS"

BTW did you find the Xtreme -G 92.91 to be the best driver for this card?

For raw power 92.91 are the best, but honestly for stability the 93.82 drivers that came with the card are the best in XP, IMO.

Well, thanks for the response, but it is a bit discouraging for me to see NVidia drivers being optimized for the latest games and people reporting big increases in performance in BioShock, etc.

A few more FPS are always welcome, but all I can do is mess up what I got when I bought the card by 'upgrading' the drivers.

XFX Support, any help on this?
