London Exclusive: D8M/ G92 is Geforce 8800 GT

G92 or D8M is indeed a faster iteration of Nvidia's mainstream generation. It will be named Geforce 8800 GT and, as the name implies, the card should end up a bit slower than the current 8800 GTS series.

It will also be cheaper, but we still don't know the price. ATI will have its RV670 to compete with this part and there are some indications that RV670 can end up almost as fast as 8800 GTS, and that clearly indicates that it will be tight battle between RV670 and D8M, aka Geforce 8800 GT.

We wonder who will win this one, but it looks like ATI is getting better.

According to various sources, the Geforce 8800GT also known as G92 will work at 600MHz for the core and 1.8GHz for the memory. The reference score for this card in 3DMark06 is 10,769.

Clocks might get a boost, but that depends on the performance of the Radeon HD 2950PRO. The Mobile01 (http://www.mobile01.com/topicdetail.php?f=298&t=413501) web site posted a picture of the 8800GT card. You can see that the card has a single slot cooling solution.

The launch date for this card is rumored to be October 29th as we reported earlier.

looks preettty cool, but the fan seems really small to cool it effectively.

I guess all that is left to ask now is,
How much will it be?
How good will it be in real games?
and when will Scott put one up for a contest  (Really hoping for this last one).

I heard else where that it is supposed to be better than the GTS since, for one, it will have more stream processors.

The specs look promising but the price tag of US$449-499 is too high for this. ;-)

Nvidia is going to be reworking the 8GTS sku by increasing the stream processor from 96 to 112 to deal with this concern.

It seems like we will have a great card on our hands as long as the price stays in line.

Geforce 8800 GT has two parts - 256 MB & 512 MB

Nvidia's product strategy is quite clear this time. It will launch two Geforce 8800GT codenamed D8P / G92 one with 256MB and one with 512MB.

Nvidia has told its partners that the 512MB version will cost between $229 and $249 at launch date while the 256MB will cost between $179 and $199.

I believe such pricing is a backup plan for Nvidia as if ATI turns up to be better with RV670 they can always adjust the prices.

NV will supply both 512MB and 256MB boards in the third week of October and it should launch it on the 29th.

Peddling around with stupid midrange cards. And if that price is true, thats rediculous cause id rather buy an 8800GTS 640mb. And whats this of an HD2950pro? I hope thats a typo, cause the HD2900pro is already out.

The only thing i like about this card is its single slot cooler solution. But that means you probably wont get much OC out of it.

Because isn't midrange the more lucrative segment?

Haven't heard of news of the HD2950 PRO. Where did you hear that?

Because isn't midrange the more lucrative segment? If it was i would have an 8600GTS right about now for the cheap price. But when ill smoke it in DX9 performance and would need SLI to get quality DX10 performance theres no reason to buy one. Might as well get the 8800GTS 640mb or even a HD2900XT for the price of that 8800GT. (If that speculative price is correct, $400 did i see?)

I meant lucrative as in profit for Nvidia. I figure that is what most people can afford or are willing to spend for a gpu. I'm not saying you are in that mainstream segment either.

By the way, I have no clue on the prices. There have been a few different prices mentioned. Sometimes, it sounds like it is below the GTS in performance and the article from X-bit Labs claims that it is better than the GTS.

Time, who knows all, will always tell us the truth.

In my belief id say that it will be better. Becasue of the extra steam processors. AND check out my thread, this card is done for before its even started.
