AVG keeps reporting that my Fear and Crysis .exe's are virus's and is trying to delete them. Iv had to re-isntall crysis a few times, any ideas of how i can add the crysis to like the exceptions list?

and for fear , it says Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

Can you submit them to AVG and tell them you know they aren't viruses?

Are you using No-CD patches or patched EXE files Darkorb ? Sometimes, No-CD game EXE's are detected as virus. They aren't virus.Btw, in every antivirus software, there should be an option called " Exception Lists " where you can specify a specific EXE or application so that the antivirus program, not to check the EXE file.I think, you can add those EXE files to that Exception List so that they won't get checked by AVG next time.

Its the EXE for the game itself. No no-cd's. the ones that came with the game

fear combat and crysis beta u dont need cd's..

Ok then just allow those two EXEs to be avoided by AVG by adding them to the Exception List.

avast uses more rescourcesNot true at all, I've seen this claimed on other forums but it's usually a case of the way it's set up and/or what's running while it's active. For instance if you were to run an anti-trojan tool such as A-squared while Avast is on, then sure, it will take upwards 15% or more CPU usage because it's checking to see if that activity is malicious. There are also things on by default in Avast you really don't need running like VRDB logging, which is likely what you're referring to when you say it uses more resources.

I have used AVG and Avast extensively and prefer Avast. AVG is good and has gotten more thorough than it used to be, but it's about as slow at scanning as Avast now because of it. AVG also offers anti-rootkit and anti spyware addons lately, the latter of which was formerly Ewido. The anti-rootkit feature doesn't search the registry and the features in the full version of their $40 anti spyware can be had for free in other programs.

Don't get me wrong, I think both are pretty good AVs, though as I said I prefer Avast. I get the feeling AVG lately has gone the route of trying to convince everyone they are the best all-in-one security solution, which is far from the case. They started out offering a great AV solution free, now they seem to be going out on a limb a bit with what has the look of corporate hype.

The fact is if Ewido were that great an anti spyware it would have flown on it's own rather than being adopted as a free addon by someone else. Also, no anti-rootkit tool that doesn't even search the registry is worth it's salt. Picking up 3rd party tools like these as addons or optional packages is clearly more hype than it is practical or necessary.

Bottom line, security programs, especially if you go with freeware, are like water cooling systems. You can get a kit that has most everything you need but it's never as good as picking out the best of each part.

Here's my fave freeware security tools list as of late:

Ad-Aware
A-squared
Avast
CCleaner
HijackThis
Sophos
Spybot
Sygate
Windows Defender

That being said, it's odd that anti-rootkit tools aren't talked about more because the days of destructive viruses has evolved into rootkits that are often used for things like identity theft. Sophos Anti-Rootkit is very user friendly, searches the registry, and offers pretty good details and advice. Icesword is a more advanced tool for experienced users.

I totally agree the absolute best, much less resource instensive than Kaspersky and every bit as good!

I don't like that they make you re-license it rather than just paying a lesser yearly fee once it expires for updates after buying it.
