I bought a 7950 2 days ago and happily played my games for awhile until they started crashing. The screen gets scrambled and freezes and forces me to reboot.

sorry for big image
I have a brand new 550w power supply I got yesterday. I have updated drivers and I even reinstalled the agp motherboard drivers. I have uninstalled my previous graphics drivers.
It seems to be related to how graphically intense the games are. I can turn down the settings on a game and play it for longer before it crashes.
Also I was able to play for a couple days before it started happening.
Oh and I submitted a ticket on the xfx website, # 112186

Now I have tried it with some other games, so far the games that crash are Oblivion, Doom 3, Bioshock, Halo 2. Games that don't crash are Half-life 2 and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars.

Try taking off your side cover and use a personal fan to blow in the side. Sounds like a heat problem.
If that fixes it or makes it any better you need to put some CaseFans and PCI SlotFans in.

I agree to check the temps and see how they look. Currently I am away from the office, but will have one of the support staff look into your ticket.

Thanks for the replies.
Ok I have a pretty powerful and loud industrial ventilation fan. I opened the side of the case and had it blowing straight on the card. It still froze while playing oblivion after about 30 seconds, and I felt the card, and it didn't feel warm at all.

Is the PSU over 12v@20amp?
And try these drivers...

They are the olds ones from the XFX Site; they seem to be the best overall driver I have tried.

The PSU says there is max 18A on each of the 12V rails.
I just got my ticket answered and they said I will have to RMA it. I was afraid I would have to, oh well.

Get a better PSU... You need 20Amp to run the card right. Bad power would make it cut out like that.

The PSU I'm using is one I just bought when I got the card, its 550w which I read was what I should get. Anyways I thought it was the amps across both of the rails? Sorry I'm not very knowledgeable about power supplies.

You have 18Amp a rail, the box (XFX) tells you that 20Amp is minimal.

I see that he said RAILS. I think he has 2 rails (12V+1, 12V+2) at 18 Amps each, so it shouldn't be a power problem. One question MS, do you have green LED lights on your 7950GT? I think those are faulty versions of the card.
