When using a 19 inch LCD at 1280 x 1024 are there any reasons to purchase an 8800 Ultra over a 8800GTS. I do not want to over buy for the applications that I will be using a new Graphics Card for.

No the GTX would be just fine. Actually you may want to read the review we just did on the XFX Fatality 8800GT OC. The card does well againts the 8800GTX XXX.

You'd better go with the 8800GTX . The extra money you'll pay for the the 8800Ultra just doesn't worth the VERY SMALL increase in the performance...:???:

Also aren't there supposed to be new cards soon (in time for x-mas?) that outperform the 8800?
If there are, you will definitely regret overpaying for your new card...

Not sure if there will be new cards by then. Until ATI has a new product that can compete on the highend NVIDIA is taking its time making sure the new top card rocks.

I am in no big rush to start my new build. Hardware prices seem to drop somewhat during Holiday season.
Thank You to all

gunner, you thread title is "8800 Ultra or 8800GTX", yet your first post compares the 8800 Ultra to the 8800GTS? :?
In any case, the Ultra is overpriced and not worth the price-to-performance gain IMO.

Edited body of text in first post to reflect 8800 GTS vice 8800 GTX, could not figure out how to edit Title.

8800GTX as the extra money for an 8800Ultra ain't worth the performance you get from it.
Its either that or wait for nVidia's new GPUs which will be who knows when since they don't have a reason to release them.

Thanks for pointing that out werty and Scott... I don't feel bad for buying a 8800GTS 2 months ago. :)
It always sucks to buy something brand new and something even better is announced the next day.
