Hey! I'd like to know the best card I can run with my OCZ Modstream 520W PSU.

My Specs:
CPU - AMD X2 Dual Core 4200+ at 2.4
Mainboard - Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
Memory - OCZ 2GB PC3200 DDR SDRAM
250 GB Hard Drive.
I think thats about it.

Thanks a lot.

Depends whether you want to make use of your MB's SLI capability. At that wattage you'd be limited to dual 7800s or less.

No I don't think I'll be getting SLI. I mean single card. Is it possible to get 8800? At least 8600 right?

I would look at the new XFX Fatality 8800GTS 320MB. We just reviewed it and it is as fast a standard 8800GTX in many cases.

So the 8800GTS can work on my current PSU?

Yes it can! You don't have to have a 800w power supply to run a 8800gts thankfully =D If you had to I'd be pretty pissed.

I'm pretty sure (though I might be wrong) that you can run even a 8800GTX on your OCZ Modstream 520W , but this would be a bit risky...as if I'm not wrong, it has "only" 20A on it's 12V rail.

I used to have exactly this PSU, before I replaced with with a nice Mushkin P650W PSU. ;-)

Great choice! GOOD LUCK then with your purchase and I'm pretty sure you'll be satisifed with that card. ;-)

Well I'm not sure if my parents are gonna let me buy it. But help me out here. I have the 7900GT I have. To get the extra money to upgrade to 8800GTS from XFX I think I need at least another 150.

So heres the question. How much do you think I should sell these parts for to my friend.

ATI X1300 256mb
1GB Ram
2 x 512MB Ram
And pretty useless motherboard and PSU (8 years)
They're all used btw.

I think 150-200? He might just buy some of it, not all the parts.

Well if he is your 'friend' then I would sell the whole package for about $50. $150-$200 is way too damn much for those things that are used and outdated severely. Not to mention he can just turn around and buy the stuff off of Ebay probably for less. But to tell you the truth I have given away better items to friends for free.

Are they really worth nothing? Thats too bad..

Yeah, sorry to say that! :frown: The parts are VERY old so anything above $60 would be way too over to ask for it. :frown:

Anyway, GOOD LUCK with selling the parts. ;-)

Yes. I ran my system with a 450watt Antec SP for about 3 months and it was heavily OCed.

Hehehe...I guess I just didn't want to take responsibiliy in case something will go wrong...;-)

Anyway, he should be safe enough to run the card with the OCZ 520W PSU. :icon_tiphat:

You should be fine i remember seeing somewhere going sli 8800's with a 550watt psu. Although i don't recommend sli on that.

minimum for a 8800 card is 400W.
Im not talking about the GTX though.
But 520 should be fine.
If you add a bunch of other things and overclock like hell then maybe you would be pushing it.
If you want to make sure you can use extremeoutervision;s PSU calculator which is pretty acurate is to how much wattage you should require for your system
http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp
(Don`t forget if you have a dualcore you still have one single processor so don`t put dual processor for a dual core, you only have one physical procy)

EDIT i`ve checked for you considering the info I have about your system and it should pull out only 251W.

You have to remember though that I did not include CDROM drives or floppy drives.
I put your 250GB drive as a SATA drive.
And did not include any fans at all.
As far as your CPU a put the vcore at 1.5v

Anyways like I said check out that little calculator to be sure but 520W should be fine.

I think the standard 8800GTS needs atleast 26A on the 12V and that OCZ has 28A so you shoudl be fine.
