Hi,

I have the 7950GT 512MB AGP graphics card, I use the supplied dvi to vga adapter to plug my ViewSonic 19" crt monitor into the card. I usually use the bottom port on the card. This is the configuartion I have been using since I purhased the card and it has been working fine without any issues.

This weekend I started to notice odd rendering in Half-Life 2 (the startup screen), odd lines on the screen when browsing and also lines on the screen in other games.

I re-installed the drivers, no improvement. I then decided to use the other port on the graphics card, and I no longer have the issues mentioned above.

What could be the cause of the problem, is this a hardware failure? I removed the card and could not see any damage

Sounds like hardware failure to me, that DVI port could be going bad.

Many 7950GT AGPs have the bottom DVI get odd problems (Mine blew in HL2-ep1 with a blue tint). If you only use one monitor and the top port works just use that.

I agree that it appears on of the ports may be faulty. If you live in the US or Canada that video card does have a double lifetime warranty so at your leisure you can arrange an RMA.

Yaa, just register the warranty and RMA when it totally gives out, if it doesn't bother you no point in RMA it now. (Losing card for 1-3 weeks, getting it back and it might have a worse problem)

Hi,

I am in South Africa, so does that mean I am screwed? How does the RMA work?

You are only 50% screwed... Start a support ticket on the XFX Site then private message your problem and your ticket number to the XFXSupport rep on this forum. ?She? will do ?her? best to help you and tell you what to do.

Hi,

I have submitted a support ticket, the number is 113228. I have been told to contact the retailer. The problem is this card was bought online because for some odd reason this is the only XFX card not sold in South Africa. The company I bought from then imports the card from Amazon and they deal with all the customs etc.

What is the warrantee on these cards outside of the USA? This is the first graphics card I have had that has had issues and the card is only about 3 month old? I was really expecting far more, especially for the price.

It is the best AGP card but it is a little unreliable. XFX might be trying to only sell them to places they can do the warrenty easy.

Hi,

Do you still use the card with the other port since your problem in HL2 Ep1? It would have been nice to know about the problems with this card before purchasing. i di do a bit of research and found mostly good reviews, but it seems like it could have been a bad buy. Do you overclock your card? if you do, what speeds do you get?

I still use it every day 24/7... BioShock 1280x1024 Maxed at like 40FPS. 1g ram, 2.8ghz P4 Hyper, 7950GT AGP.

Can't edit my post?

DO NOT OVERCLOCK THIS CARD! Will lead to more problems... What PSU do you have, and do you have good airflow? This problem seems to come with bad power or bad heat. (Mine overheated, put more fans in)

Hi,

I have an Antec TruePower Trio 650W PSU, the case I have isn the Antec P160, I have 120cm intake fan in the front of the case and a 120cm fan at the back. I also have a pci fan card in the slot directly below the graphics card. This card has 2 fans blowing onto the card.

The card idles at 45-47 degrees C.

I use very similar settings to you in HL2, the only difference is I use anisotropic 8x and "wait for vsync" is enabled. Without vsync, I get a jerky screen when moving quickly. With these settings I get 50-90 fps in Team Fortress 2.

I found that using the 6Anti mode gives jaggered endged to hand rails, cables etc

I have a Pentium 4 3.4Ghz and 2GB Kingston HyperX special low latency ram.

Your card seems to be fine other then that port. :-)

I have 1g of corsair XMS and 2g more in the mail.

If you only one fun monitor then it doesn't really matter.
