View Full Version : Problems with an XFX Reseller

I purchased a Geforce7900GT XT (factory Overclocked) from an XFX reseller here in Bulgaria in May of 2006and it is under a full replacement warranty for 24 months. The card is suffering from graphical defects and artifacts, indicating the memory is damaged ( I have seen that a lot of the 7900GT have this problem and a number of different forums). The problem is, however, that I gave the card back to the reseller and they have kept the card for almost a week now and have still not confirmed whether or not they will replace it. They did mention that IF they decide to replace it, they will replace it with a Geforce 8600GT, which according to them is a more powerful card. First of all, this is an unfair replacement since, as you know, the 8600GT is much slower than a 7900GT OVERCLOCKED XT. Second of all, they are insulting my intelligence by lying that the card number indicates it is a more powerful card. I would like to add that I also asked them if I could pay the difference for an XFX 8800GTS/320MB and was also refused this option. Does anyone have any advise that they can provide me. Is it possible for me to have XFX to possibly push them into giving me an at least EQUAL card to the one I purchased for 500$ a year ago...Thank you.

In my opinion they should be offering you an XFX 8800GTS 320MB.

slugbug thank you for agreeing with me on this one :) I posted this not only because I want to rant and vent a little. Does anyone have an idea what XFX would replace the card with...I am getting the feeling that this company is trying to make money off of me, first by giving me a slower/cheaper card, then by RMA'ing the 7900GT and getting a 8800GTS for it...to sell at the normal price. Do you think XFX would intervene and request that this company provide the correct replacement. We are talking about the main XFX distributor for Bulgaria....

that is unbelievable, they took your 7900GT and now they want to give you a 8600GT ARE YOU SERIOUS, the 8600gt is very slow in comparison, that is really screwed up.

that sucks man, that really, really sucks, i hope someone can help you out seriously.

You should be getting a 8800GTS to be fair, or at least a 8600GTS even tough it won't be better than your old 7900GT

I am so depressed about this right now...I have no idea what to do and I am really hoping XFX could help out. I have heard a lot of good things about XFX support and thats why I bought the card in the first place :)

this is really bad for no XFX staff to post and try to help you out

the 8600GT will barely give you half the FPS of your old 7900GT

you must be able to do something, try to report their bulgarian office to someone or tell them to look at the toms hardware Gpu chart to prove that the 8600GTS is slower and therefore the GT would be far slower

you CANNOT let them give you that sad card, show them this

I already did that, The reps response was (translated into English) "Are you crazy? The 8600GT get 5000 3dmarks" Sadly so, they are giving me the option of "8600GT or nothing". They don't seem willing to give me my old 7900GT back because they know I will try to RMA it back to XFX directly. I am beginning to feel more and more like they are really trying to get a better card off of me to sell for a profit. XFX PLEASE HELP ME!!

Before I pushed the issue I'd let XFXSupport here make some suggestions on how to handle this matter. Unfortunately, all we can really do is empathize with your situation. We can't even really make good suggestions as most of us are in the US and we're not sure what Bulgarian law states with regard to a situation such as this.

Please PM me all of your reseller info and I will see what I can do to help. Also if you havent, start a support ticket at www.xfxforce.com and let me know the number.

I want to make sure I thank you again for all this help. I have to admit customer service is no priority in this country (and there are no laws to protect the consumer here...unfortunately). I must say that I have been extremely happy with XFX as a brand, and have told a lot of people to purchase XFX cards, and it is because of helpful people like all of you that I have done so! I will make sure to post any and all updates here, as soon as there are any. I also appreciate the chance to rant a little....:)

:) The reseller is now completely ignoring me. They are neither exchanging, returning, or even telling me what is going on...They don't even answer their chat when they see it is me.

I guess that reseller thinks that a customer is never right. Lets hope XFX will straighten'em up :thumleft:

Reminds me of a local pc store were they think they know it all but when i listen to the employees talk to each other all i can think is you guys are morons. I can't believe some of the bull that comes out of their mouth that they actually believe. Also the Geek squad no longer approaches me at bestbuy and they don't let me approach customers in the area. I guess they don't like informed people in the store. :)

GREAT NEWS! :)

I spoke to the reseller (in person this time). They agreed that the card is fully defective, and that it needs to be RMA'd. According to them, however, XFX does not accept RMA from them. So they offered me the option of them sending the card (at their expense) to XFX to see what XFX will provide as a replacement, or give me the 8600GT. I have asked that they send the card to XFX, but I wanted to confirm that there is a point in sending the card over.

Hey! good to hear, unfortunatly, the 8600gt is what they deem to be a suitable replacement for the 7900gt. If it were a 8600gts then maybe I'd be happy.

Well, I am not happy, which is why I am waiting on XFX to respond regarding whether or not a direct RMA to XFX will yield a better replacement. If not, I will probably take the 8600GT and sell it and buy a new VGA card :P Sad that XFX is taking 4 days to respond to my ticket though.... :)

Woah....they responded. Apparently, all those benchmarks were wrong....the 8600GT is MUCH BETTER than the 7900GT :) (<-joke)

Check this out:

Hi, thanks for your message, firstly, if the card s still with the retailer we cant get involved at all. will say however that although the 8600GT has some important differences to the 7900GT - notably the 256 bus width compared to the 128 on the 8600GT, the 8600 is better on the clock - (the 7900GT is 20Mhz less than the lowest spec 8600, and the best 8600gt is 725Mhz on the core and 2.2 on the memory.) and of course it is DX10 compatible. did they say which model? the PV-T84J- UAQ is the best available 8600GT. please find this out and we can give a better comparison. also unfortunately it is not possible to upgrade with RMA items under any circumstances. let us know what model they are offering and well let you know the best course of action. kind regards. james

Thankfully, I purchased a new VGA card just to be on the safe side. This time, however, I did not go with XFX....My new card is an MSI overclocked 8600GTS and IS, in fact, better than the 7900GT I had. The Saga is finally over :P At least I am somewhat ready for Crysis :P

Let me try to get ahold of the head of the Europe team and see if I can speed it up.

Thanks xfxsupport, but there really isn't a point anymore because I went ahead and bought a new card after I got the reply. The reseller will probably RMA it. Anyhow, I am happy with the way things turned out. The only reason I got an MSI card was because the dont have XFX in stock :) Either way...a few months down the line when the 8800GTS is a little cheaper (its 400$ + 20% Tax now) I will buy one :) Basically, all is cool :)

As far as i know, the XFX replacement for the 7900GT IS a 8600GTS, not a 8600GT.
in my opinion, dont let the store get away with the crap they have given you, demand the 7900GT to be returned and then RMA it with XFX themselves. if i'm right, you will then receive a 8600GTS, better yet, the store will receive NOTHING.

so if you have 2x 8600GTS and you have a SLI capable board, what could you then do?
or you could just sell the replacement card, hold onto it as a spare or give it to a friend. either way, atleast the store isnt going to receive a profit from your misfortune.

so, XFX support, am i right in thinking the 7900GT replacement is the 8600GTS, not the 8600GT?
