allright, so I'm gonna build a rig for a friend whos is studying music recording and the such, he alredy has a good studio, but he says his p4 isn't cutting it anymore, told me he has 2000 bucks to spend, I told him I could build him a good quad core rig for 1000 or less....

I have this in thought: (ncix and local store...)
-Silverstone Element ST50EF-PLUS 500W - 90.20$
-Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Quad Core Processor LGA775 - near my house she will sell it to me 300$ no tax, in the box and she probably let me look at the boxes and pick out a SLACR, G0 !
-Scythe Ninja Plus REV.B Heatpipe Fanless Heatsink - 44.99$
-OCZ Gold XTC PC2-6400 2GB 2X1GB - 77.42$
-Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R -150.44$

already got DVD and 80 gig IDE,but for a swift 91$, we'll throw in a Western Digital SE16 320GB SATA2, and turn AAM down so its searches quietly.

-2 yate loon 120 mm fans at 8$ each

-Antec P182 ATX Black Mid Tower Case -146.89$

916.94$ and maybe 50 for shipping (and tax)
he has a ATI X1600, but he dont know if its pci-e or agp...and already has a souncard. SO we are a little above my previsions, but this is a nice rig, and it has to be real quiet. your thoughts ?

EDIT

Got the stuff today, I am at school so will start later tonight.
here is the good stuff :
Asus p5k-e deluxe
OCZ PSU, dont remember which model, 700W
q6600 G0 SLACR
kingston hyper-x 800 cl-4
and a sexy antec p182, which he is giving me because he saw my TT armor and wanted it (cheap), the p182 is been my fantasy for a long time.....
this all for just over 1k, 1050$ to be exact.

I will you guys updated, and pics coming too

If you're ordering from NCIX, they're having a shipping promo this week. Cash in 500 rewards points for free ground shipping with $50 or more and up to 50lbs weight.

Id suggest a hair more power for a quad core beastie. And if hes recording you might want to get a decent sound card (If he has something like a Sound Blaster or something)

I like one of these memory kits more since they have better timings:

Crucial Ballistix PC2-8500 DDR2 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-1066 CL5-5-5-15 240PIN DIMM Dual Channel Memory Kit (http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=24378&vpn=BL2KIT12864AA1065&manufacture=CRUCIAL%20TECHNOLOGY&promoid=1025)
Crucial Ballistix Tracer PC2-6400 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-800 CL4-4-4-12 240PIN Dual Channel Kit W/ LEDs (http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=24926&vpn=BL2KIT12864AL804&manufacture=CRUCIAL%20TECHNOLOGY&promoid=1025)
Crucial Ballistix PC2-6400 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-800 CL4-4-4-12 240PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit (http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=24641&vpn=BL2KIT12864AA804&manufacture=CRUCIAL%20TECHNOLOGY&promoid=1025)

I also suggest a PSU with more juice.

You could check out Ultra for a more powerfull PSU.
They are cheap and very effective.
Id go for a better PSU personnaly but a 500W could cut it but doesnt leave much upgrade path.
Anyways check out some Ultra PSUs.

yeah, I guess we could go for a 600W or 700W, but it was to keep it cheap. anyways, its not ordered yet... and he has a sound card that cost about the price of this pc.
I might as well go for a bit more juice in the PSU department, because I hope that we get a cool GO stepping proc and It will sing a happy tune of 3 gig OC while being cool and silent.

I dont really see the need of OCing if hes not gaming. Unless he will be hardcore encoding.

p182 = Sexy

My C5 Coolermaster = Beautiful

TT Armor = Ugly

Everyone has their own tastes in a PC case but I would have stuck with the Armor since it has more interior space.

Any reasons why you think its ugly?

Ya everyone has their own taste. I wouldn't say the armor is ugly but It wouldn't be in any of my top picks. I do like the p182 over the armor. My bro likes the armor and a buddy of mine will like almost anything with a mirror finish.

so I went to bed real late, got around to finishing my rig at 2 am (I finish school at 10 pm) and now I just built the quad core rig, but I'm still waiting for tonight to place an NCIX order of fans, fan controller and my 7900gs xt
I am installing XP on the quad as we speak, and I will proceed to torture it this afternoon. The only thing that sucks is that I got the stock intel heatsink for the moment. Oh yeah, what also sucks is that I'm a morning person, I just can't sleep until noon... I went to bend at 4 am and woke up at 10...I am fueled by expresso

EDIT
the nice lady at my favorite computer store lent me a super geforce 6200LE with turbocache while I wait on my vid card (my friend is getting my 7600gt when I receive the 7900).....she's hella nice that lady

RE-EDIT
got a picture of his quad rig installed in the studio
