" 3DMark Next " is the name of the successor to 3DMark 06. The developers at Futuremark have been rather quiet about the upcoming 3D benchmark, but we do know that it will be Vista and DirectX 10 / Shader Model 4.0 exclusive. As with all of the previous 3DMark benchmarks, 3DMark Next have some quite extreme system requirements, but the funny thing about them is that they are for just running the benchmark. If you want it to run smoothly and achieve a good score you need some even more extreme. The absolute minimum requirements are quite fair, but we dare to claim that such a system won't get you far.

Minimum & recommended system requirements information are in the picture.

Over at YouGamers they also have an online system check for those who wants to know if their specific system can handle the 3DMark Next.

Click on the below Game-o-meter to know if your system will be ok to handle " 3D Mark Next " .

Game-o-Meter: " 3DMark Next " (http://www.yougamers.com/gameometer/10171/)

So, ultimately FutureMark has decided to announce the successor of 3D Mark 2006 which we were discussing from a lot earlier but they did name it as " 3D Mark Next " instead of 3D Mark 2007.Cool.

WOW!!! Looks promising! I wonder how good my system (E6600 / 8800GTX) will perform with this one... I'll check it as soon as I'll get home from work...

Thanks for the info, sush! ;-)

Any clue when it should be released? :-?

WOW!!! Looks promising! I wonder how good my system (E6600 / 8800GTX) will perform with this one... I'll check it as soon as I'll get home from work...Probably about as good as a 6800GT, 3200+ A64 Venice, and 512mb ram did on 06 when it came out.

but we do know that it will be Vista and DirectX 10 / Shader Model 4.0 exclusive.Pretty sure that was obvious and the system reqs seem right.

Yeah, hehehe ...I guess you're right. ;-)

I totally agree. That was obvious. I guess from now on, we'll more and more benchmarking program for Vista only :???:...with PCMark Vantage that was already been released and the soon-to-be-released FutureMark 3DMark "Next"

Wel its obvious they are gonna Vista only cause its all DX10. I say XP DX10 needs to hurry up but since those guys arent getting paid i guess they will take their time.

Yeah, I guess it'll take some time till we'll see DX10 running on XP, and hopefully (or at least, that's what I personally hope...;-)) by that time, DX10 will become more popular (I mean more applications and games which are DX10-based will be available) and more stable on Vista.

It's not out yet Dark. You can test the compatibility (how this will run on your machine) with that Game-o-meter.After going to that page, you can just press " Start " to let the online system evaluate your PC.I'll update this thread with the download link, when the benchmark releases but for now, you can only take a test.Install an Activx applet if asked to get started.

I'm not alone in saying 'Its about %&*)%$^*#@ time.'

It was supposed to be out in September, but they kept quiet because it kept getting pushed back.

There will be no DX10 for XP because the API for XP has been pushed to it's limits. To get DX10 working, the M$ team had to do some major kernel changes and Vista was born!

....Either that or it's a marketing scheme....but that's M$'s excuse. :icon_tiphat:

Its a marketing scheme. The first reason they tried saying was becasue DX10 was supposed to be all 3d with a 360 desktop for Vista blah blah and new memory managers ect ect. Yea well all thats NOT there and DX10 is just an updated DX9 with SM4.0 support. So, it can be incorporated into XP like any other DX update has been. From 7 to 8 to 9 to 10.

Of course there will be no official DX10 for XP from Microsoft and I never said that. I just know that there are some individual freelancers that are working on DX10 for XP. I'm not sure if they'll ever make it...

I think, MS will just not bring DX10 in XP because it'll hurt Vista sells.Otherwise, MS is capable of doing it.

Thats the only reason they dont want DX10 on XP

Tested this out a LONG time ago. I scored above two by like a quarter inch. At the time I had my processor oc'd (X2 5200+) @ 2.9Ghz and my 8800 at stock speeds.

Really kind of lost all my interest in benchies. I don't care how my system compares to others, as long as it plays games well (which it does great) :)

I just like to see how pretty it is. 3dmark always looks better than your latest game.

Wished if we could see that in this case also but we don't have DX10 hardware.

Yeah, I also think they're capable of doing it, it just that, like you and PP Mcguire said, it'll hurt their Vista sales. It's not the only reason, but probably the MAIN reason. ;-)
